What you'll do

PORTRAITURE IN MEXICO is a drawing class that investigates portraiture, beauty and aesthetics from a Pre Hispanic perspective, utilizing live models and or photos of descendants of Aztec, Otomi, Chichimeca and other Mexican ethnicities. This class will be taught by International painter, Isis Rodriguez who specializes in the figure, myths and imagination.

At 3pm an orientation & Pre Hispanic history will be given. Isis will give a demonstration on easy techniques to paint a portrait. Students will then begin their painting. Isis will be available to give instruction according to students needs. Students will leave with a painting that serves as a beautiful memory of the people of San Miguel de Allende. .

Students can choose watercolors or oil painting. Those that choose oil painting should take 2 days.

I received my B.F.A from the University of Kansas in Painting in 1988 and have been exhibiting my works and giving classes ever since. Isis Rodriguez Art Studio is a 1,200 sq ft professional art space where she design & produce all her exhibitions and where she give art classes. Built by Mexican passive solar architect, Hugo Dorsey, the space has tall beamed ceilings, filtered lighting, ventilation, bathroom and sink. It is located in the quiet neighborhood of Colonia Independencia, an up and coming neighborhood made up of 90% Mexicans, 10% International Expats and Artists
