What you'll do

The adventure begins at one of Ireland's best preserved star shaped forts - Charles Fort, a 17th century fort. There are stunning views over Kinsale harbour and our route for the next few hours. We get you set up on your bikes and then follow the coast into the town centre. In town, we can stop to see the 'Giant's Cottage', home to Patrick Cotter-O’Brien (1760-1806), ‘The Giant of Kinsale’. Just beside the house we'll find a narrow street leading to the romantic colourful houses and the small pedestrianised centre of Kinsale. Cycling on, we'll pass St Multose Church, the oldest building in Kinsale and further on to Compass Hill - an exclusive road that circles the town at high level. We continue our cycle along the coast, passing the fishing trawlers to Dock Beach - a small sandy cove very popular with locals in the summer. If it's open, we'll stop off for a coffee at the Dock Pub (or else we'll stop for a coffee closer to town!). Continuing around the harbour, we arrive at Sandycove, a quiet bay, protected from the wind and waves by an island. Sandycove Island is home to wild goats - see if you can spot one!
