What you'll do

I have been practising Indian Classical music for over 40 years and my music has taken me around the world. There are several instruments native to India and we'll get to know about some of them, including the tabla, sitar and pakhawaj. You're welcome to sing with me and try your hands on the instruments. I'll talk about differences and similarities between Indian and Western music. We'll then cover aspects of music made popular in Bollywood and Indian folk music – giving you an insight into the diversity you'll find across the country! I'll end with sharing my experiences of performing around the world and what it takes to become a global performer. 2.5 hours is a small amount of time to cover what I have learnt and experienced in my 40-year journey but let's try the best we can :)

Where you'll be

The session will happen at my school. It's a very special place that is close to my heart where I have taught thousands of students. You will find a lot of instruments, books and artefacts related to music and performing arts here.
