What you'll do
Join me, landscape-engineer and passionate strollologist, for an experience with a difference. Strollology is the science of strolling and a field of study interested in how humans perceive and use landscapes. While we explore one of Berlin’s most fascinating areas, I’ll help you appreciate urban environments in a whole new way. As we walk the sides of the River Spree in a place once on the border between East and West Germany, I’ll illuminate the contrasts between the two sides, show you hidden spots, fill you in on local history and explain the typologies of different styles of city-landscapes. Finally, we’ll complete our experience with a small chat and open the discussion about landscape-design and city-planning and reflect about how the urban planning of this part of Berlin and its vibrant, rebellious and creative character go hand in hand, while we share a drink together in a beautiful restaurant down by the waterline.
My name is Daniel and I’m a landscape-planning engineer, educated at Berlin’s Technical University. I’ve been in love with the city since I arrived here 14 years ago. It’s truly unique and a brilliant example of what a city can be, and also could be. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and insights with you.

Where you'll be
Our journey will take us through Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain via the Oberbaumbrücke, in a part of the city that has radically evolved since the fall of the Wall. This urban space, around an open body of water, has a lot of change cast in the landscape! After our 2.5 h walk, we settle down in the restaurant Freischwimmer to have drink and a reflective discussion about landscape- and city-design, to become experts about the spaces we were in!

This experience is about the design and aesthetics of build environment, the city of Berlin in particular, and how we are determined by it. It is a very debatable subject, some may not agree with my personal opinions and that's great because discussion leads to progress for all participants.
