What you'll do

One of the most popular day trips from Ulaanbaatar, Bogd Khan National Park is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and get outdoors. This isn’t your typical touristy hiking trip – so don’t expect to see many other out-of-towners making this hike during our adventure!

With a history more than 300 years old, Bogd Khan is a place known for its sacred mountains and rock carvings, for having more than 200 plant varieties, and as a place where animals such as bear, fox, hare, wolf, squirrel, eagles, woodpeckers and deer all call home.

We’ll meet at 8 am in Ulaanbaatar and head out to Bogd Khan Uul National Park together using private transportation. The drive will be approximately an hour to an hour and a half long.

Once we reach Bogd Khan Mountain, we’ll take our time first exploring Manjushir Monastery, an 18th century monastery complex that was once home to more than 20 temples and some 300 monks in the southern part of the reserve. The monastery sits overlooking a beautiful valley of streams and granite boulders, offering fantastic views making it the perfect place to capture some incredible photos and catch your breath before we head to the trailhead.

We’ll climb Bogd Khan Mountain at a leisurely pace, through a forest of pine trees, moss and lichen covered boulders, with our sights set on Tsetsee Gun Peak, one of the highest peaks in the area.

Hello! I’m Eddie! I’m a college student here in Ulaanbaatar where I’m majoring in International Business. I work as a tour guide where I host tours around (and outside of) the city for travelers from all around the world. I love meeting new people and showing off a side of Ulaanbaatar (and Mongolia in general) you might never have expected to find here. I was born and raised in Ulaanbaatar and I’m happy to share anything that I can with you about my country.

Where you'll be

We’ll picnic along the way and take as many water breaks as needed, which will also allow us to talk about the importance of the area to locals, as well as discuss Mongolian culture and traditions as we explore Bogd Khan Mountain, Manjushir Monastery and Tsetsee Gun Peak.

Eddie was an amazing guide. I had the great idea to walk back to Ulaanbaatar, and Eddie was happy to oblige and guide me. I would not recommend it for the faint of heart, since it was quite the bushwhack. We really became good friends and I had a great time!

Highly recommended! That was really adventurous experience(if you want to go across the mountain). Eddie is also great. He told us much of Mongolian culture or some stuff.
