What you'll do

We’ll be welcomed into the restaurant with a round of alcoholic drinks, like palm wine or stout, or non-alcoholic malt drinks. As we sip our drinks and relish the goat head main course known as Isi-Ewu and white rice, I’ll tell you a bit about my cultural background. I will also put our meal in some context and give a sense of how it fits into the rituals of West African community life. I’ll also provide some explanation of other popular family staples such as Egwusi and Nsala, as well as the various “fufus” (starches) with which they are eaten. These and other foods are also available at the restaurant, along with a range of drinks, but will need to be ordered and paid for separately. We will end with fried plantains to sweeten our palate before departure.

Where you'll be

We’ll be dining at one of Inglewood's most popular West African restaurants. The owner is an old friend and her daughters also work there, while her twin sons usually stop by after school. It is very much a family establishment with typical West African no-frills, slow and steady service.
