What you'll do

This experience is hosted by a band of up to four facilitators bringing together and exposing the diverse culture of South Africa. Our team consists of seasoned musicians from all corners of South Africa, bringing together the different rhythms and sounds from around the African continent. After introductions, we will explore these elements and the impact of sound on the human psyche through djembe drumming lessons, workshopping and an exhilarating rhythmic experience for a healthy release and a restorative connection. We will journey together through the various native sounds of Africa and rhythms of life. Somewhere during the drumming our band Khoitrans comprising of Shafiek (Djembe, keys, guitar), Simpiwe (vocals & djembe), Sandile (bass, djembe) and Byron on drum kit and percussion will switch to our instruments for an interactive jam session featuring you on drums. By playing the grooves you learn on the djembe drum we join in and perform some of our original music and compositions with you. During breaks we share our experiences and local history as artists and as much info about the city and surrounds to make your visit in Cape Town as wholesome and rewarding as possible! The studio avails the opportunity to capture memorable photos and video featuring stunning views of Table mountain whilst enjoying our delicious meal by PLANT, one of Cape Town's top vegan restaurants

Khoitrans band, of which I am a member, is a multicultural music platform practicing and displaying the diverse heritage of Africa, blending sounds and rhythms from all over the globe to celebrate music without boundaries. Since its inception many years ago, the band has featured musicians from all over Africa creating a distinct sound, also continuously engaging youth and social cohesion initiatives and programs to inspire sustainability and growth. We are currently exploring the the holistic benefits of interactive sound and musical experiences with our audiences and the drum, woving together the traditions of malay, tribal and western origins of Cape Town. As locals we are familiar with our city's true history, utilising our art to inspire a lekke local experience with loads of info and knowledge to share in the shade of Table mountain
