We'll begin with a 2 hour walking tour, discovering the secrets behind the tiles and exploring hidden treasures in Porto. You'll learn the origin of Portugal's tiles, which date back to the 15th century and be taken on a journey right up to modern day. We'll uncover various techniques of tile making and recognise famous patterns of Porto. Afterwards you'll be a tile expert and feel inspired to decorate your very own! We move onto Agostinha's Atelier, where a refreshment is waiting for you. Dive into a 1.5 hour painting workshop and choose what type of tile you'd like to decorate. Decide between a traditional 15th century Moorish tile with arista technique (we're the only workshop in Portugal who offer this) or a flat tile using stencil technique with a popular motif from the city. A little bit on why we do, what we do: Tiles with great historical value are stolen daily to sell onto tourists or destroyed by investors for holiday apartments. We aim to protect the original facades of Porto by raising awareness. We work with traditional techniques to ensure the artisan of tile making is promoted and kept alive. With the speedy rise of tourism it’s more important than ever to protect the tiles and sustain the city's legacy.
