What you'll do

I will pick you up at BUS STOP NUMBER 8, next to the big Church, Hallgrímskirkja, downtown Reykjavík.
We drive to the moon like Reykjanes Peninsula, where lava formations remain untouched and magical, holes with bubbling mud and superheated water with colors resembling colourful paintings. I will take you around Reykjanes Peninsula GEOPARK to look at geology, volcanology, geothermal formations, mud polls and steaming hot springs, and you will learn about the geological history of Iceland. Then we will hike to Fagradalsfjall / Geirdalur to look at the active volcano and spend time there enjoying this unique and magical eruption. An ultimate nature experience!! Sometimes we start the tour hiking to the volcano, depending on weather and volcano activity.
The hike is about 1 1/2 hour each way, and then we stay for about 1 hour to enjoy the magnificent eruption. So, please bring warm and waterproff clothes, hiking shoes, food and water and your camera!
NOT POSSIBLE to drop off at the Blue Lagoon.

Fagradalsfjall volcano started erupting in March! Lately it has been showing waves of eruption, range of days not active and then it starts erupting again. So I can not promise eruption when I take you there.
On this trip I will take you on a tour around the Reykjanes Peninsula GEOPARK, visiting Kleifarvatn Lake and Seltún geothermal hot spring area, and hike with you to the volcano in Fagradalsfjall / Geldingadalur. I am a geologist with special emphasis on past ocean and climate change.
Iceland is a volcanic island and experiences many earthquakes each day and a volcanic eruption on average every 10-15 years. Usually the eruptions take place in remote places that are difficult to access. The volcano in Fagradalsfjall has been erupting in the backyard of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, and is quite easy to reach.

This was definitely an adventure. The day of our hike was super windy, so our guide (Helga's friend) took us a back way up the mountain to try to have the wind be a little blocked. Once we were at the top of the ridge, you had to focus so you didn't get blown astray...we were told that usually it isn't that intense though. Regardless, it was exciting and felt like a big accomplishment at the end. The views of the volcano were surreal, and our guide was friendly and pleasantly talkative.

One of the most amazing things I've had the chance to do! Although the volcano wasn't active, this was the opportunity for us to actually go closer to the solidified lava. Nature is very unpredictable in Iceland and you want to embrace what you get to experience when you get to experience it! The hike to the volcano and the other sites we stopped by were amazing too, and the group and guide were very friendly. Thank you to Helga and our guide Margret!

This was an excellent tour of the active volcano with additional stops to a beautiful lake and hot springs. There was a great structure to the trip, easy pickup and drop off, plenty of information, and comfortable ride.

Helga is an excellent host and tour guide and the trip is to a truly amazing location. The scenery is just truly stunning so it's a great location for photographers. It's much smaller and more personal than the big coach tours. Helga was such a great host - informative, genial, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Awesome day and made some new friends.

Helga is an amazing guide and made the volcano hike experience way more enjoyable than I can imagine anyone else could. She’s extremely personable and brought together a range of personalities and made each of us feel welcomed. She is well versed in Icelandic historical and geological information and graciously shared personal stories and insights. I would 100% recommend and would sign up for any other tour she’s got going on.
