Church House Stables is a luxurious bolthole in a quiet conservation area on the edge of the South Downs National Park. It is a refurbished Victorian stable with period character with stylish & comfortable features: rolltop bath in a superking bedroom; giant veluxes overlooking a private 5-acre wildflower meadow; separate shower/wet room. Perfect for a romantic break with walks, heritage towns/villages, museums & beaches nearby. Dog-friendly, downstairs only. Offroad parking.

The space
You enter through a traditional split stable door which allows you to leave the top half open in warm weather. Curl up in the love-seat or put your feet up in the armchair in front of the environmentally friendly bioethanol wood burner and smart TV (the Samsung Frame TV transforms into a gallery of beautiful works of art when not in use as a TV) with the warmth of underfloor heating beneath your feet. Alternatively, enjoy the reading nook/window seat that looks out over the private wildflower meadow.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need including electric oven and hob, worktop-height fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, nespresso machine and dishwasher as well as the less common kitchen items such as baking dishes, milk frother, wine cooler, salad spinner, herbs and much more. Please don't hesitate to ask if you would like to know whether you need to bring anything such as a cheese grater or potato peeler (you don't). Milk and eggs are also supplied for your arrival as well as a welcome basket full of homemade cookies & granola and gifts from local suppliers.

You'll find a spacious wet room behind a sliding oak barn door which again includes everything you might need for your stay such as towels, dressing gowns, slippers, and unlimited products from the luxury botanical brand '100 Acres' (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and hand lotion). The monsoon shower is refreshingly powerful.

Upstairs, via the reclaimed Victorian cast-iron circular staircase, is a famously comfortable super-king-size bed (which can also be arranged as a twin on request) with 500 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding from Soak & Sleep and hypoallergenic duvets & pillows. In the chests of drawers you'll find extra blankets and a hairdryer as well as plenty of storage space. You'll also find a dressing table and stool, velvet armchair, side table with wax melt burner, a selection of books for you to enjoy, and a beautiful free-standing roll-top bath perfectly positioned to enjoy the wonderful countryside views and the stars through the three velux windows which add plenty of light to the bedroom and feature blackout blinds to ensure a good night's sleep.

Guest access
Adjacent to the property is a gate into the our private enclosed wildflower meadow and access to 5 acres of pastureland, leading to some incredible walks and views of Catherington Downs. The cottage has an off-road parking space for one car.

Neighbourhood highlights

Church House Stables is located in the conservation area of Catherington, on the edge of the South Downs National Park, UK. The 100 mile-long South Downs Way National Trail follows the old routes and cattle 'droveways' along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs.

Running along a chalk ridge means that the Trail drains and dries out quickly making it easygoing all year round. The elevated position ensures you are rewarded by breathtaking views across the English Channel and Isle of Wight to the south and over the wooded Weald and heathland ridges to the north.

Whether on foot, on a bike or on a horse, the South Downs Way passes through many different habitats including internationally important chalk rivers, internationally rare species rich chalk grasslands and beautiful ancient woodland. The Trail passes through or passes by 5 National Nature Reserves and dozens of Sites of Special Scientific Interest where you can enjoy stunning wildlife at close hand.

Church House Stables backs onto the 32-acre SSSI Catherington Down and is a short drive to numerous idyllic villages including Hambledon, East Meon, Droxford and Emsworth (all within 8 miles). The amenities of Petersfield (9 miles), Portsmouth (10.5 miles), Chichester (14.5 miles), the steam railway of The Watercress Line (16 miles), Winchester (19.5 miles) and Southampton (24 miles) are within easy reach. Many attractions including Goodwood Race Circuit, Butser Ancient Farm, Fort Nelson, the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays and the Weald and Downland Museum are in within easy reach. There are two National Trust properties are within 16 miles.
