Unbeatable location

100% of guests in the past year gave this location a 5-star rating.
Our cottage is the original dwelling in a beautiful Grade II, 14th century Medieval Longhouse. We live in the 'byre' end of the building - originally the 'cow shed' and are on hand for any help or advice - or perhaps a glass of wine...

Note - Doorway beams are low and staircase is characteristically steep.

Burrington is a beautiful and very quiet small hamlet 2.5 miles from
Leintwardine (and the nearest shop and pubs), 5 miles from Ludlow and just a couple of miles from Mortimer Forest.

The space
The house is Eco friendly and fully sustainable, having Ground Source heating, Solar Panels and Bore Hole.

We have an EV charger at the property.

(Main picture shows the full property of which as stated we live at one end)

There are two double bedrooms, a single bedroom and a beautiful family bathroom with fantastic shower on the upper floor. The lounge is comfortable with TV and 'toasty' log burner for chilly evenings - though the 'green' heating system and underfloor in the dining room are more than adequate to keep the cottage cosy even in the winter. A table for six in the dining room stands in front of the inglenook fireplace with another log burner - a fully equipped kitchen with Rangemaster stove will cover all your catering needs - well almost.. no dishwasher so you will have to wash up the traditional way, by hand.

There is a small fridge with ice box, so for the convenience of larger bookings we added a Wine fridge that is more than adequate to put food in as well as all that wine you may bring.

We are not quite a small holding, but we have many free range animals, if you are allergic to any animals that we have please do not book as this is their home, so they come and go, if your door is open, a chicken, cat or dog may say hi. Although this is very rare and the cottage is not housing any of these animals on a daily basis, and is very clean.
Other than the uncontrollable appearance of spiders.

We provide kindling and paper but you will need to bring your own logs please. Aldi do them by the bag

Guest access
We only let the cottage to one set of guests at a time, who between them have exclusive use of the kitchen, lounge and Dining room. The outside space surrounds the property so guests are free to roam or relax as long as you don't mind bumping into Mark and I or our extended family of free roaming chickens, ducks & nosy Jack Russells - Nip and Tuck! and Tilly. There is plenty of space to park and a private entrance for our guests.

Other things to note
An ideal base for walking (there are numerous public footpaths close by) and cycling. We could also accommodate your horses if you wanted to explore the beautiful scenery and Mortimer Forest on horseback (please contact us for details).

For an additional fee (for deep cleaning purposes) we allow well behaved dogs - note we have free ranging animals so dogs to be kept on a lead outside the house. We do not allow dogs upstairs, the stair gate can be fitted at the bottom of the stairs to help guests with any naughty pups that insist on breaking the rules!

Leintwardine is our closest village, it has a Spar/ Garage and Local Butchers.

There is an award winning Fish & Chip shop in the village next to The Sun Inn / Parlour Pub.

The Lion Pub/ Hotel which does a very nice meal by the river.

Neighbourhood highlights

In an area of outstanding natural beauty, Lower House is the perfect place for those seeking a peaceful escape. A short walk up to the Bringewood and you will enjoying far reaching views over the valley and the Welsh hills, Lower House lies nestled in a gentle valley in the tiny hamlet of Burrington which dates back to the Domsday book. St Georges church, famous for its fine series of cast iron grave slabs is just at the top of the garden. Downton, referred to as "Duntune" or "hill settlement" in the Domesday book, is just a mile down the road and the Bringewood with its stunning views and popular wedding venue just half a mile up the lane. Leintwardine village is a couple of miles with shop, petrol station, local butchers, The Lion - a beautiful riverside pub & The Sun Inn -one of the few remaining 'parlour pubs' in the country. Further afield Visit the historic market towns of Ludlow, Leominster & Clun and the nearby Welsh Marches which abound in historic sites and castles.
Due to Covid we recommend pre booking for almost everything, unfortunately.
