Escape to this retreat in the Somerset village of Batcombe. Surrounded by rolling hills and set within a cottage garden, The Old Cider House is the perfect place to unwind.
Within walking distance of The Three Horseshoes/ Penny Square Barn and a short drive from Frome and Bruton, it’s ideal for walking, food and relaxation.
The cottage sleeps 2 adults in a king-size bed, with additional room for a child on a camp bed. You can book massage treatments, facials or yoga with Joanna and recharge!
The space
The Old Cider House is a beautifully renovated 17th-century building, full of original character and thoughtful touches throughout.
Guests are welcomed with local milk, eggs from our hens, tea, coffee and a generous selection of Yogi herbal teas.
Downstairs you’ll find a comfortable king-size bedroom with chest of drawers, alongside a shower room stocked with complimentary Urban Veda toiletries. There is also a separate treatment room which can accommodate a travel cot or camp bed (provided) for a child (please bring bedding/ travel cot if using this option).
Upstairs is a light and airy open-plan living space with a fully equipped kitchen, including:
• 4-ring gas hob and fan oven
• Fridge and freezer
• Kettle, toaster and cafetière
• Cornishware crockery
• Well-stocked cookware, candles and dining essentials
There’s also a dining table and space to store coats and walking gear after exploring the surrounding countryside.
Outside, guests can enjoy a private terrace with outdoor seating, BBQ, fire bowl and a calming water feature, all overlooking stunning valley views - ideal for morning coffee or evenings by the fire.
Fast Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage, making it equally suited to longer stays or remote working.
Although I live next door in the Weaver’s House, guests have complete privacy during their stay. I’m always nearby if needed for recommendations or assistance.
Joanna also has over 20 years’ experience as an Ayurvedic practitioner and also offers the following if you want to turn your stay into a retreat:
• Warm oil Ayurvedic massage
• Holistic facials
• 1:1 yoga sessions
• Seasonal foraging and wildcrafting workshops
Guest access
You can access the Cider House on the back drive and park your car, then walk down the path to the annexe. You have use of the whole property, with private terraces and shared use of a large cottage garden with free range runner ducks and hens.
Please note if you are having lunch in the pub and would like to leave your car here before check in that is always fine!
Other things to note
Mobile phone reception can be intermittent in the village, so we recommend checking directions before travelling. WIFI is very fast once you've checked in.
If your preferred dates aren’t currently available, please feel free to get in touch as we can often accommodate longer or additional stays.
Please note the cottage is not suitable for dogs, as we have free-range birds in the garden who may come to say hello.
