Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Welcome to Whitehill Steading - a collection of stone agricultural buildings, dating back to 1858, in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

Whitehill Cottage is the first of the buildings we’ve brought back to life as a rural retreat.

We've restored this nearly 200 year old cottage sympathetically, retaining its rustic charm whilst offering a touch of luxury. We're dog friendly (well behaved dogs only, fees apply) and can accommodate up to four adults (not suitable for children or infants).

The space
Kitchen:
A spacious farmhouse kitchen with exposed beams, a wood‑burning stove, Welsh dresser and handmade cabinetry with oak worktops, plus built‑in fridge (with freezer compartment), oven, induction hob and dishwasher. A Grind pod coffee machine (compatible with Nespresso‑style capsules), toaster, kettle, microwave and all essential cooking equipment are provided for relaxed cooking and slow breakfasts.

Living Room:
A calm, elegant living room with comfy sofas and a wood‑burning stove for cosy nights in after exploring the countryside. A selection of books, board games and a flatscreen TV offer plenty of options for entertainment.

Bedroom One:
Upstairs is a spacious master suite tucked into the eaves, with a sumptuous king‑size bed, built‑in wardrobe with gowns and a hairdryer, and a dressing table. A luxurious roll‑top bath with adjacent armchairs make this room feel like your own private retreat.

Bedroom Two:
Accessed through the living room, the second bedroom features a spectacular four‑poster king‑size bed, built‑in wardrobe with gowns and a comfortable reading chair. An ironing board, iron, clothes dryer, and vacuum cleaner are neatly stored in the built‑in cabinetry should they be required.

Bathroom:
On the ground floor, the main bathroom has a walk‑in shower and WC, providing a fresh, modern space to start and end the day.

Boot Room:
The ideal place to hang coats and leave muddy boots, this practical boot room is equipped with a sink and a washer‑dryer to keep everything clean and organised. Guests with dogs will also find dog beds, towels and blankets here.

Exterior:
Outside, a private garden with patio area offers an outdoor dining table and chairs, perfect for leisurely meals and evenings in the fresh country air. A charcoal BBQ is also available for use.

Guest access
Guests have access to the whole property and a private garden.

Other things to note
High-speed fibre broadband WiFi is available throughout the property.

Please note that the ceiling heights in the entrance hall, boot room, bathroom, kitchen, and master suite are relatively low (ranging between 6’4” and 6’6”) with some low doorways (5’10”) which may be restrictive for guests who are more than 6 foot tall.

Neighbourhood highlights

Whitehill Cottage enjoys a peaceful setting in the heart of the Scottish Borders countryside, conveniently positioned just off the A6089 Kelso to Edinburgh road. The road sees light passing traffic and the occasional farm vehicle, offering easy access while preserving a sense of calm and seclusion.

The cottage is a short drive from Kelso, where cobbled streets lead to independent shops, cosy cafés, a seasonal farmers’ market, and the historic Kelso Abbey. For heritage lovers and walkers alike, Floors Castle and its stunning riverside grounds are conveniently located nearby. In the opposite direction, the small village of Gordon offers a lovely village pub, The Gordon Arms, with bar and kitchen and a sunny beer garden.

A little further afield, the landscape opens onto some of the Borders’ most scenic destinations: the charming town of Melrose with its famed Abbey, the peaks of the Eildon Hills, the suspension bridge and riverside walks at Gattonside, and the village of St Boswells — home to lovely eateries and boutique shops and studios.

From countryside rambles to historic sightseeing and leisurely days exploring local markets, Whitehill Cottage makes an ideal base for discovering this unspoiled and welcoming corner of Scotland.
