Airbnb’s free CO/smoke alarm programme

Smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms can help save lives. That’s why we encourage that all listings be equipped with smoke alarms, and equipped with carbon monoxide alarms if the listings have specific characteristics or amenities–check out our safety article to learn more.

Airbnb hosts with an active listing can get one free dual CO/smoke alarm

For active Airbnb hosts who can’t purchase their own smoke and/or carbon monoxide alarms, they can request one free alarm from Airbnb (you’ll be responsible for applicable custom taxes). Programme Terms and Conditions.

Hosts are limited to one free alarm, but we strongly advise that you install more alarms depending on the needs of your listing, and per your local regulations/laws.

We don’t currently ship to PO boxes. This programme is currently not available in Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Ukraine, Myanmar, Russia, Belarus and Syria, and temporarily paused in China, Japan and Argentina.

What kind of CO/smoke alarm you’ll get

You’ll receive a self-contained, battery powered combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, or two separate alarms for smoke and carbon monoxide. We recommend checking your local laws and regulations to make sure you’re meeting all alarm requirements – including whether additional alarms are necessary.

How to sign up for your free CO/smoke alarm

Request a free alarm by signing into this Elevate page. Just make sure to check your shipping address for accuracy, as orders with incomplete or inaccurate addresses will be canceled without notification.

If you need more than one CO/smoke alarm

Hosts who need additional alarms or want to receive them quicker are welcome to find them using sites like Amazon.com, Walmart.com or their local hardware shop. The International Fire Chief Association and the National Fire Protection Association recommend installing one on each floor and outside every bedroom to help guests hear the alarm while they’re sleeping. Follow manufacturers’ guidelines to properly install alarms and test them on a regular basis, to ensure they’re in working order.

How delivery works

We work with three external partners that help fulfil these orders. Hosts with delivery addresses in the United States will receive a package from our partner, Logistics Supply, who is based in the United States. Logistics Supplies, along with our other partners Safelincs and OneTouchPoint, supply alarms outside of the United States.

Note, depending on the deliver-to country, you may be responsible for paying additional taxes and fees due to customs. Airbnb will only cover the cost of the alarm and shipping costs – you’ll be responsible for any additional fees.

Already have smoke and CO alarms?

Make sure you update your listing(s) to reflect having these devices, they should be noted under Amenities. Learn more about Home safety: Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and how to update your listing. Once installed, we strongly suggest that you regularly test that the alarm is working properly, as described in the manufacturer’s guideline.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe.
