The Orlando is a newly renovated eight bedroom guest house with a smartlock self-entry pincode system.

Important! Room 2 has a small double bed. This is only 135cm wide. Personally, I think it is more suitable for one person, but if you are on a budget and are happy to fit two of you in a 135cm wide bed (standard double is 150cm wide), then this is the room for you. :-)

The space
Room 2 is a single room with small double bed (120cm x 190cm) on the ground floor in the middle of the property (rear facing window) with large private ensuite bathroom, room fridge, wifi, writing desk and chair, tea and coffee making facilities, 49 inch TV, and toiletries.

Room 2 is for single occupancy only.

(Please don't try and bring in a second guest - there is a security camera on the front door, so I will know).

I will correspond through the AirBnB website to arrange all your arrival and departure details.

The Orlando is keyless and I will send you a six digit pincode entry number so that you are able to enter the main building and your ensuite bedroom without having to come in to contact with anyone else.

You are welcome to drop luggage before checkin, or to leave luggage after checkout, while you visit the city. Please arrange this before arrival to ensure you book a free luggage locker.

Other things to note
In winter, the bedroom radiator has thermostats on them which MUST NOT be touched. They are designed to keep each room at a steady and constant 19 to 21 degrees. Touching or tampering with them can cause them to become disconnected and then the temperature will rise uncontrollably to about 40 degrees ... which is a very hot wait till I can get someone in to reconnect the thermostat. I may also need to charge for the reconnection of the thermostat. The call out charge is £30. Please just get in touch if you have any issues with the temperature of your room.

For stays of more than 7 nights, your room will be cleaned every 7 days, where bedsheets and towels will also be changed. We will arrange this on a day that suits you after a booking has been made.

The pincode entry system means that you do not have to have any interaction with anybody in order to enter your room. i.e you will receive a pincode for entry to the building and your room.

I no longer provide an in-room snack breakfast tray, and this is reflected in the price accordingly.

The Orlando is a two minute walk from Cambridge central train (and bus) station, and less than 1 mile from the historic city centre.

Cambridge train station has two pubs, one supermarket, one pizza restaurant, Wasabi sushi restaurant and two cafes/eateries. All two minutes walk from the Orlando.

The Orlando is also in the centre of the CB1 Business District ie. Amazon, Microsoft, ARM, Astra Zeneca, Deloitte, Carter Jonas etc

'The Orlando' (formerly known as The Railway Lodge Guesthouse) is a newly renovated eight bedroom boutique hotel located some two minutes walk from Cambridge main train station.

All rooms are ensuite, have large flat screen TV, wifi, room fridge, writing desk, and keyless 24 hour entry.

To tell you a little about me: My first career was as a viola da gamba (renaissance and baroque instrument) performer, and for ten years as a professor of viola da gamba at the Royal College of Music in London.

I grew up in a mixture of Sydney and London, and I have also lived in Germany for 9 years. I initially went to Germany to study, but I loved it so much that I stayed for work. This means I speak fluent german, although having not been back for a few years probably means it is getting rusty!

I am positive and friendly. I have a passion for interior design, sport (especially dingy sailing, tennis and running), and I am very interested in current technology.
