Neighbourhood highlights

Diani Beach is a major beach resort on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, East Africa. It is located 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Mombasa.

It has been voted Africa's leading beach destination for the fifth time running since 2015.

The beach is about 17 kilometres (11 mi) long, from the Kongo (Tiwi) river to the north and Galu Kinondo beach to the south. The 16th century Kongo Mosque is located at the Northern tip of Diani Beach, where the Kongo river flows into the ocean. It is the last remaining ancient Swahili structure in Diani. You can visit it and take a small tour for a small donation to the mosque community who still pray there.

Diani is one of the most lively tourism resort areas of Kenya. The indigenous people of the area are Digo, one of the nine ethnic communities known as the Mijikenda. Today the area includes Kenyans of various ethnicities who have migrated to Diani.

The water is shallow near the shore at low tide, with some underwater sandbars and reefs. There is small beach break and deep water at high tide. There is a reef that runs parallel to the beach for about 20 km. Galu beach to the South, where Kenyaways is located is the more preserved end of the beach whereas Diani Beach North is the central area where there are shops, supermarkets and noisy clubs and bars.

Inland from the beach, there is the Shimba Hills National reserve which is surrounded by numerous palm tree plantations that lead to Tsavo East and West wild life areas about 3 hours by road. Along the beach there is the disappearing coastal rag forest, home to the Black and while colobus monkey which be seen frequently at Kenyaways.

Diani Beach is also a popular kitesurfing, and snorkelling location. It is safe, warm and incredibly beautiful.

Our neighbours are currently under construction, please note there may be disturbances incurred up to early 2023. Rates are reduced to compensate.

Kenyaways is a beautiful property belonging to the Kennaway family who have been the sole owners of this property. The 3 acres have been preserved as a tropical forest beach paradise and the family home has been converted into a beach guest house. Kite surfers are particularly fond of this place as the creator of Kenyaways Linzi, is a kitesurfing instructor since 2005. It has a unique style, very relaxing and laid back and homely.
