Unique and romantic apartment in the city center

This lovely house is one of the oldest houses in Kuressaare, located in a heritage conservation zone. The apartment has limestone walls, which can sometimes crumble. The unique apartment has high ceilings, wooden floors, and a homely feel. History The plot was already built up in 1786 with a small wooden house, when the owner was Ludwig Wilhelm Tunzelmann. The location of the kindergarten street 10, or the former poorhouse, caused the street to be named the Poor Asylum (Armen Gastenhaus) on the 1876 city plan. From 1873 to 1903, the house belonged to the Stamms. From 1903, the house belonged to the Ossetrows. The house hosted many events during the Tsarist era: in 1894, R.Meywald's classes, in 1896, dentist F.Zinowsky's reception, in 1899, gymnasium teacher L.Meyer gave lessons in making up, in 1900, Wilson knitted stockings, in 1903 O.Konstantinov accepted orders for artificial flowers made of silk, velvet and batiste, 190 sin W.Taube shop. In 1919, the building housed tailors Transtok and Luik, Aleksander Berg's joinery workshop and the Saaremaa commissar's office. From 1930, the owner of the house was Oskar Kapsi, who was an independent merchant. In 1924 and 1926, the Kapsi general store was located here. Oskar Kapsi was considered one of the most reputable merchants. (On August 20, 1926, the director of the Leo Schee tobacco factory and the director of a/s Eesti Kaubandus, who were Kapsi's largest creditors, arrived in Kuressaare by plane. Kapsi's fraudulent bankruptcy was suspected.) In 1927, the grocery store "Soliid" or "Reva" was located there and the address was Pruuli 10. You can see the 100-year-old store sign in the outdoor area. From 1928 to 1930, the editorial office of Meie Maa was located in this building. In 1935, there was already a two-story extension on the courtyard side of the house, which was covered with a gable roof, and on the corner of Pika and Lasteaia streets, the business premises already had 2 larger windows than t, otherwise there were 6-part windows. In 1940. the building was nationalized and after the war the NKVD was on the ground floor. The lockers left in 1944. and probably sank in a shipwreck. During the Soviet period, the internal layout of the house was changed and the building was divided into more apartments. In the second decade of the 21st century, the building received a new roof and roof, as well as new suitable windows, and renovation work was completed in 2020. Today, the building is divided into 5 apartments. The corner apartment exhibits an old limestone wall and a plank ceiling.
