“We spent 13 days with Sova and got to know everyone in Naigani Island – it was a wonderful cultural experience of the REAL Fiji and the welcome and kindness of all in Naigani we will treasure forever. We travelled to Naigani Island by private car transfer from Nausori Airport to near Natosi landing with Beni (FJD80) where Toka and Mika were waiting for us and transferred to Naigani Island via private boat transfer (FJD100). Transfers were on time, with such friendly welcome and arranged by Sova in advance. The accommodation is a homestay with Sova’s family and consists of a private room with 3 beds, wardrobe with solar portable light with shared lounge, kitchen/ diner and toilet with shower. It is a Fijian home which is well loved and clean with bedding and towels supplied by Sova with everyone popping in to help with food preparation, a chat and caring for both young and old. Sova, Nia, Clara, Jemima, Mar, Jo and others are wonderful ladies who we shared many hours chatting together. Sova and all made us feel part of the family and village, their hospitality was exceptional. It is not a hotel with five-star facilities nor tourist culture shows but so much more life enriching, as it opens the door to experience real Fijian life and culture on a beautiful unspoilt South Pacific Island. Three meals a day were provided with tea / coffee unlimited by Sova with a different village lady preparing dinner each day on our stay. Was FJD30 for 2 persons /day for all meals for us. All food was superb, organic, fresh and generous Fijian portions. Clara prepared exceptional food including fresh crab, tuna, Spanish Mackerel, and delicious breakfast omelettes, with Sova’s freshly cooked bread rolls and pancakes over wood fire, fresh papaya, coconut, pineapple, mango, donuts, Oona’s noodles and Mereoni’s roti and vegetable curry provided the best food in Fiji and surpassed the food we ate in the five-star hotels on Denarau Island. On Sunday Church Service was held in the lounge with incredible singing and lunch with the ladies putting on a huge feast (superb sweet and sour coral trout) meeting everyone with the village Chief Rata Naomi heading proceedings. Sova organised us trips to our requests. We went to Ovalau and the old Fijian capital Levuka – private boat for the day FJD200 where we shopped and had tea in the Royal Hotel and collected one of the Aunts. The boat captained by Toka took 1 hour from Naigani and with plenty of spare seats we invited anyone to come so 8 in all had a good day shopping. We also private hired the boat for the day to see the dolphins and snorkel at Viti Levu reef for FJD300 with picnic supplied by Sova. Tokai and Mika expertly found the pod of dolphins who jumped and swam in the bow wave of the boat providing an incredible experience of seeing a large pod of dolphins in beautiful South Pacific reefs. We also private hired small boat to visit Korovu on the mainland FJD100. Naigani Island has beautiful bays – Secret Bay and Picnic Bay (North coast) just 10 minutes from the village by private boat for snorkelling off the pristine coral reefs now recovering after Cyclone Winston with picnic for just FJD30. We invited anyone who wanted to come and Sova with three girls enjoyed snorkelling and resting on our own on beautiful Picnic Bay beach looking out to Viti Levu. Naigani village has its own lovely beach (South coast) shallow with sea grass then coral reef. You are part of Fijian life and to respect their Fijian culture it is appropriate not to wear hats or sunglasses and for the ladies to wear a sulu when in the village and remove shoes before entering homes. We had stayed at Naigani Resort 10 years ago. Returning to Naigani we walked through the tropical forest to see the destruction left by Cyclone Winston on the resort (located on the east coast) which remains closed and sadness that it had not been reopened as for several decades the resort was a main source of economic income for the Naigani Villagers. With the resort’s closure the majority of young people have left the village for work on the mainland. Regrettably during our visit a Naigani lady had died when on the mainland and we were invited to her funeral on the island. Around two hundred Naigani people arrived from the mainland in relays of boats, immediately set up cooking stations, lova, banqueting hall and the island became a joyous meeting place as families met up in remembrance of the lady. We attended the funeral mass, burial and feast. Yet again we were made welcome by all as part of the village. We felt humbled by their generosity and kindness. Within 3 days after the funeral and many boat trips, all had returned back to work on the mainland and we returned to quiet village life. We had a great holiday and rest on Naigani Island thanks to Sova who was a wonderful host – highly recommend.”

“If you come to Fiji you need to go to Levuka and stay at the Levuka Homestay, and enjoy Marilyn's phenomenal breakfast. It is worth the trip to Levuka. The accommodations were amazing, the best Bed and Breakfast in Fiji. John & Marilyn are great host. They are extremely knowledgeable about Fiji and very enjoyable to sit and talk with during your stay.”
