It also provides convenient access to Katsuyama, a ski resort with one of the largest slopes in Western Japan. This area, which receives snow unique to the Japan Sea side due to the cold, dry northwest wind, boasts a blessed snow quality and abundant snowfall. In addition, at Ski Jam Katsurayama, you can enjoy Dinosaur Land and Katsurayama Nature School in the green season. There is also a barbecue facility at the ski resort, Katsurayama. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

HAKU is a Japanese Style Villa. You can enjoy your private time as in your home. “HAKU“ is one of the readings of the character “百” which means “hundred”. Medieval Haiku poet, Basho Matsuo likened eternal passage of time to "百代の過客", a permanent traveller. In his time, a hundred years was expressed as eternal. HAKU was originally built as a farmer’s shed about a hundred years ago. It was recently relocated and renovated for another hundred years. HAKU will welcome you as traveling companions.
