Garden Cottage annexe forms part of a charming 16th century cottage situated on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in beautiful East Sussex. There are country walks from the door of the annexe, and a bus stop at the end of the drive taking you to Brighton or to Tunbridge Wells. Nearby is a post office and store, pub, farm shop and cafe serving local and organic produce. Uckfield is 1.5 miles away and provides a larger range of shops restaurants and services.
“Stayed at the annex for 3 nights during the beginning of the lock down. It is a gorgeous, stylish and cosy home, situated in heart of nature. Everything was provided for a warm welcome and for comfort and ease. Karen left good quality bread, orange juice, milk, eggs blueberries and other essential foods in the fridge. Coffee, tea, even cookies. There were enough logs and kindling for a fire for one night which was lovely. The bed has a deep mattress topper which makes the bed very comfortable. I had a great nights sleep. Would highly recommend this home for a lovely retreat or a walking holiday. Did not meet Karen in person. But all communication was responsive and helpful. Thank you.”
Blackthorn is a luxurious retreat for two. Attached to the owner's home, and situated on the edge of Icklesham village, the property lies halfway between the ancient towns of Rye and Hastings. There is a distant view of the sea, and the garden is surrounded by beautiful AONB countryside. The cottage has a private, south facing verandah, and guests are welcome to use the heated, indoor swimming pool and outdoor hot tub throughout their stay but exclusively between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm.
“We found Blackthorn to be the perfect holiday haven for couple-friendly relaxation and sighsteeing along the Sussex coast. indeed i'd return happily to write away, or bring family and friends too. It's a beautifully-kept cottage with scenic balcony, jacuzzi and pool access, set in a tranquil landscaped garden surrounded by nature and the great outdoors. Listening to the timeless birdsong in the morning and taking in the stars from the jacuzzi were magical moments, as was simply relaxing with a roaring fire with good wine and scrabble. Local places well worth exploring are charming Winchelsea, picturesque Rye (Lamb house, the Mermaid Inn for Sunday lunch and Webbes Fish bar for an evening supper) and the more vibrant Hastings. We'd love to come back soon and leave where we left off, with more walks and possibly a local wine tasting/tour (we spotted many tempting local wineries whilst out and about!). Thank you Peter and family for having us to stay in your beautiful holiday home. You were the perfect hosts!”

“The seafront hotel is an amazing getaway and we have absolutely no complaints. From the welcome hamper to the (sad) goodbye, our experience was nothing short of amazing. We were welcomed with a hamper and shown the property with its additional facilities such as the swimming pool and the hot tub. We were given a map of the local area and popular spots (and directions) were given to us. The room itself was spacious, intimate and stylish with all the gadgets one might require from cooking utensils to robes and slippers. There is also a good gym facility which we were able to use as and when it suited us. The town of Hastings is beautiful too, with its many sights such as Fire Hill cliffs to the Old Town and beach. We also took a trip to Battle and Bodiam Castle. Overall the trip was fantastic and I would definitely recommend. The host was superb and very welcoming.”
