About this listing

Staying on this property will allow you to connect with and experience nature in an unforgettable way. Fall asleep to soothing sounds of the stream and wake up to the beautiful songs of the birds on this one acre property.

The space

This unique eco- hideaway is located in a river valley at the base of Mt. Ka’ala, the highest peak on Oahu. This private, gated community is close to all beaches on the north shore and only about 2 miles from Haleiwa town center.

Staying on this property will allow you to connect with and experience nature in an unforgettable way. Fall asleep to soothing sounds of the stream and wake up to the beautiful songs of the birds on this one acre property.

This property is entirely off grid, yet still has the comforts of home. All energy is generated with solar power. Water is pumped from our private artesian well 180 feet below the surface of the earth.

The 10’x20’ lanai is not visible from the private road leaving its guests hidden with only views of the ravine. This South African Safari tent is equipped with it’s own propane refrigerator, sink and stove. Experience the beautiful outdoors and serenity of the open air with the comforts of clean sheets, electricity, and a hot shower.

The 17’x17’ enclosed area has a queen size bed and a queen sized futon couch bed. There is a power strip with plenty of power to charge your phones, computers, etc.

The attached bathroom includes plumbed sink, toilet and propane hot-water shower, along with a claw foot tub.

This Safari tent is on the same property with our main house and another tent, but the landscaping and the layout of the land allow for plenty of privacy.

Enjoy (when in season) sweet dwarf apple bananas, papayas, Meyer’s lemons, Mexican limes, star fruit, guava, and more.

There is a certified organic farm about a 5 minute walk up our private road where you can purchase organic produce directly from the farmer on Saturdays and Sundays. Farm to your table in no time at all.

Our guests have told us this hideaway is more than just a place to stay, but an experience of true native Hawaii.

There are two friendly hens and a loving cat which may visit during your stay. No other pets are allowed on the property, sorry.

Please be advised that trespassing on neighboring properties is not allowed and can be dangerous.

Welcome to your off the grid hideaway. Please respect this green lifestyle and use common sense for energy efficiency. Generally speaking: Turn off lights, conserve water, and keep the power consumption as low as possible.

Please do not plug any electric heating elements into system (flat irons etc). The solar inverter cannot handle the load.

This house is serviced by a private septic system. Only toilet paper flushed. Wash sand from feet with hose outside before showering in bathroom.

CONSERVE WATER! This property utilizes a small private well. There is no city water. Please be mindful of shower length and frequency.

This property is not serviced by a municipal trash service. The owner has to take all garbage to the dump when full, so please be mindful of what you bring back to the property. Composting is available for vegetable scraps, coffee grinds, etc. to recycle nutrients back into the earth.

Please let us know if you have any questions/concerns or see anything in need of repair. We hope you enjoy staying here and are grateful to share this land with you!

Beautiful secluded spot located in a private rural area, but a very short drive to central Haleiwa - cute shops, restaurants, and beaches. It is a "glamping" experience, which is what we were looking for. We heard and saw many amazing birds (including peacocks), geckos, pigs, and the resident cat kept us company on our outdoor porch/kitchen.

Matt and Marlys were amazing hosts. They even made it a point to meet up with us (On our own time) to say hello and give some recommendations to what we wanted to do. The surrounding atmosphere was amazing. Can't easily find that kind of experience back in California. I would recommend this to anyone. Who knows we will probably go back next time we go to Oahu. Thanks Matt and Marlys!

I wouldn't choose any other place on Oahu. The North Shore hideaway is exactly as described, and Matt was an amazing host who responded quickly to our questions and completely respected our personal space (and even mailed a GoPro we left behind). The location provided a perfect launching pad for our daily adventures on the North Shore and a calm solitude for our nights in. The place was clean, comfortable, and everything was in working order. Mosquito's weren't an issue, in 3 nights I might have counted 5 of them. Highly recommend.

This was an incredible place to stay on North Shore. Loved watching the peacocks roam around adjacent properties and listening to the birds chirping in the surrounding trees. This place is a gem.

What a wonderful hideaway!! Best place to stay on the island hands down! The pitch black nights under the stars and the bird sounds to wake you in the morning. Truly a great place on the island of Oahu. Be prepared for bugs, but it's camping after all so nothing we didn't expect to see!

Simplistic, beautiful way to experience Oahu! This will be my go to in future ventures to the island. Matt and Marly are awesome hosts, and are definitely available if you need them. Otherwise they have a great respect for privacy.
