This unique eco- hideaway is located in a river valley at the base of Mt. Ka’ala, the highest peak on Oahu. This private, gated community is close to all beaches on the north shore and only about 2 miles from Haleiwa town center.
Staying on this property will allow you to connect with and experience nature in an unforgettable way. Fall asleep to soothing sound of the stream and wake up to the beautiful songs of the birds on this one acre property.
This property is entirely off grid, yet still has the comforts of home. All energy is generated with solar power. Water is pumped from our private artesian well 180 feet below the surface of the earth.
The 10’x20’ lanai is not visible from the private road leaving its guests hidden with only views of the ravine. This South African Safari tent is equipped with it’s own propane refrigerator, sink and stove. Experience the beautiful outdoors and serenity of the open air with the comforts of clean sheets, electricity, and a hot shower.
The 17’x17’ enclosed area has a queen size bed and a queen sized futon couch bed. There is a power strip with plenty of power to charge your phones, computers, etc.
The attached bathroom includes plumbed sink, toilet and propane hot-water shower, along with a claw foot tub.
This Safari tent is on the same property with our main house and another tent, but the landscaping and the layout of the land allow for plenty of privacy.
Enjoy (when in season) sweet dwarf apple bananas, papayas, Meyer’s lemons, Mexican limes, star fruit, guava, wild cherry tomatoes, and whatever is growing in the garden at the time.
There is a certified organic farm about a 1 minute walk up our private road where you can purchase organic produce directly from the farmer on Saturdays and Sundays. Farm to your table in no time at all.
Bikes, snorkeling gear and surfboards available for use.
Surf lessons, and stand-up paddle lessons and tours available upon request.
We have many suggestions for hiking, surfing, snorkeling spots… Favorite restaurants, shops, massage therapists etc. very close to Jasmine yoga co-op.
Our guests have told us this hideaway is more than just a place to stay, but an experience of true native Hawaii.

Melissa and Scott have a lovely property and are welcoming hosts! I stayed in the Green room, comfortable bed and private. They are located in a convenient area, close to town but you feel that you are in the remote jungle of the North Shore! If you desire a peaceful environment, this is the place for you!
We wanted to get off the beaten path and dig into Oahu and this was the place. We even had some bad weather the couple of days that we stayed there and the Eco Hideaway held tough. I was very curious about the conveniences but they where all great. Shower was hot, stove worked great (we even got some fresh organic eggs from a farm next door), and we even had some electricity for some small stuff. This location is also very close to the beaches, Dole plantation, and more. Melissa and Scott where also a great host and helped us with things to do around the area and where to eat. Definitely a one of a kind experience.
Scott and Melissa's Eco-Hideaway was the perfect place for us to stay for our seven day North Shore adventure. Both Scott and Melissa were more than gracious with their time and were very responsive to any questions that we had. The Eco-Hideaway felt similar to a camping experience which we loved - away from main roads, tucked away in the hills of Waialua. It was really nice to be on the far West end of the "7 mile miracle" as it forced us to drive through the awesome town of Haleiwa and see the entire coast line on our search for great surf. It was so nice to fall asleep each not to the sound of the nearby stream and wake up to the sunlight and sounds of the birds. On the plane ride home we were already going through our calendars trying to plan our return visit to this awesome hideaway. Many thanks to Scott and Melissa for providing an awesome place to stay :)
We had a great stay at the North Shore Eco Hideaway. Scott and Melissa were easy to communicate with before the trip and lovely to meet in person. The tent was fantastic - exactly like the pictures. It was really fun to stay a bit off the grid. We loved waking up to the birds and sitting on our porch/outside kitchen area. Overall, I would highly recommend staying with Scott and Melissa if you want something different than the touristy hotels.
Scott and Melissa where very nice and helpful. The Eco Hideaway was cute and clean. The sounds of the birds in the morning where so wonderful! We had lots of rain and wind that the tent held with out a leak. Place is very close to town and surfing. All and all a great two weeks!
We were looking for a place to decompress and unplug for a bit, and we thought the North Shore Eco Hideaway would be a good place to do just that. Our stay was for two weeks and it was truly a wonderful experience. Melissa and Scott were very gracious and attentive hosts throughout our stay and the tent/lanai space was very clean and everything was provided as advertised.
The safari tent is well-built and consideration for the weather has definitely been addressed. We enjoyed several heavy downpours while sitting under the covered lanai remaining dry and comfortable. We loved the level of intimacy we were able to enjoy with our surroundings while feeling completely safe, day or night.
We appreciated the location and the privacy it provided, but found that we were just minutes away from Haleiwa Town and everything we could want or need. We could be as recluse or as active as we wanted and felt very at ease in doing both.
Being off-grid in a forest environment meant that there were a few things we needed to be aware of and attend to, but for us that just added to our experience. If you don't mind being a little more involved in the daily tasks associated with this style of living we would highly recommend it.
Also, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the birds. What an amazing experience to hear the forest waking up every morning. We would lay in our oh-so-comfortable bed and just take pleasure in the profusion of sounds all around us. And while it was clearly audible, we also found ourselves sleeping well into the morning on many a day.
If you are looking for a change of pace (read that slower and more deliberate) from the usual vacation offerings, we cannot recommend this property and its hosts, Melissa and Scott, enough.
Great clamping experience. The backdrop of the mountains was gorgeous. The day to day goings on of nearby farms was educational and gives you an insight to the people and way of life of Waialua.
We really enjoyed the North Shore Eco Hideaway. Great to be so close to the the north shore.
Melissa was very willing to share information about the area that was quite helpful in planning our time there. The property is nice, but not as pristine as the listing makes it sound. We were comfortable and it was nice to have a real bathroom in the tent! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Overall I think their prices are a bit high for what they provide, but I guess that is Hawaii for you!
My wife and I stayed one week at the Eco Hideaway. It was a very relaxing environment to stay in. The safari tent had more then enough space inside, and the full kitchen outside was a great amenity. The tent allowed a breeze through, which kept us cool at night, kept almost all the bugs out, and withstood a torrential downpour without getting wet inside. It was really neat to wake up and go to sleep with the sounds of the jungle, while feeling safe inside the tent. We enjoyed the visits from the chickens in the morning and Bones the cat at night.
Melissa was a very accommodating host who addressed all our questions immediately. We took full advantage of the beach chairs, surfboards and snorkeling equipment that were included.
