“Vivid experiences create enriching memories. And memories make your life seem longer.” Brian Chesky, Co-founder AirBnB
This unique eco- hideaway is located in a river valley at the base of Mt. Ka’ala, the highest peak on Oahu. This private, gated community is close to all beaches on the north shore and only about 2 miles from Haleiwa town center.
Staying on this property will allow you to connect with and experience nature in an unforgettable way. Fall asleep to soothing sound of the stream and wake up to the beautiful songs of the birds on this one acre property.
This property is entirely off grid, yet still has the comforts of home. All energy is generated with solar power. Water is pumped from our private artesian well 180 feet below the surface of the earth.
The 10’x20’ lanai is not visible from the private road leaving its guests hidden with only views of the ravine. This South African Safari tent is equipped with it’s own propane refrigerator, sink and stove. Experience the beautiful outdoors and serenity of the open air with the comforts of clean sheets, electricity, and a hot shower.
The 17’x17’ enclosed area has a queen size bed and a queen sized futon couch bed. There is a power strip with plenty of power to charge your phones, computers, etc.
The attached bathroom includes plumbed sink, toilet and propane hot-water shower, along with a claw foot tub.
This Safari tent is on the same property with our main house and another tent, but the landscaping and the layout of the land allow for plenty of privacy.
Enjoy (when in season) sweet dwarf apple bananas, papayas, Meyer’s lemons, Mexican limes, star fruit, guava, wild cherry tomatoes, and whatever is growing in the garden at the time.
There is a certified organic farm about a 1 minute walk up our private road where you can purchase organic produce directly from the farmer on Saturdays and Sundays. Farm to your table in no time at all.
Bikes, snorkeling gear and surfboards available for use.
Surf lessons, and stand-up paddle lessons and tours available upon request.
We have many suggestions for hiking, surfing, snorkeling spots… Favorite restaurants, shops, massage therapists etc. very close to Jasmine yoga co-op.

Scott and Melissa were great hosts during our stay. They offered suggestions for activities and restaurants, shared their time (and their surfboards) on a Sunday morning with us to get the boards fastened to the roof of our car, and were always available and responsive via phone or text.
The tent itself was what we expected. The bathroom was a little smaller than I thought it would be and the tub had some staining, probably from use over time. The bed is concave in shape so you will roll to the middle over time. The linens were very comfortable and the rest of the tent's amenities are great. The patio is a nice place to relax in the shade when the sun comes out, and we had no problems with any of the outdoor kitchen items.
The environment is peaceful for the most part. Aside from the countless birds chirping in the morning (which is, in fact, a beautiful sound to wake up to), the tent is located near the rear of the property, adjacent to one neighbor on either side. It happened that our first night coincided with a grumpy day for the dog on one side and loud music from the other side. The noise subsided by 9pm, and we didn't hear the music again for the rest of our stay. The dog wasn't a bother later either.
We expected a bit more for the price, but in the end were content to be able to eat meals outside, sleep with the breeze blowing in, and take warm showers.
This hideaway was exactly what we needed to wind down the trip after staying in bustling Honolulu.
The property and the area are beautiful, we felt at home and only regret not having more time on the property.
Pro tip, for aviation nerds there is a cool nearby airfield with gliders and skydiving!
My first glamping experience and I loved it! The bed was super comfy and I enjoyed waking up to the sunshine and bird calls. Appreciated having a bathroom attached with shower and toilet, too. The kitchen was well equipped and I was able to do a little cooking one night; I had to stand on top of a chair to cook though, the stovetop is pretty high up. It's a rare treat to be able to stay so close to the North Shore as it's a sweet little community with wonderful shops and restaurants. The area, a former plantation, is gorgeous and I found myself just standing there in awe during dusk… made for some fantastic panoramic shots! Scott and Melissa's property is more of a narrow rectangle with their house in front by the road, this tent in the middle under big trees, and the next tent close to the river. The next door neighbors were pretty close by (viewable from the tent). Scott and Melissa were attentive hosts, leaving guests with maps, suggestions, and even snorkeling gear!
This place is amazing! Scott and Melissa we're wonderful and welcoming. My boyfriend and I came to Hawaii to celebrate his 30th birthday and chose this enchanting place as our home. They gave us great recommendations about where to go - which led us to beautiful and enchanting places away from the tourist crowd. If off the beaten path yet comfortable is for you, then you've found the perfect place to stay!
We really enjoyed our time at Melissa and Scott's place. This is a truly unique way to appreciate Oahu. How relaxing to sit at the kitchen table and listen to all the sounds of nature. We even had a couple of friendly chickens that came to greet us in the morning. Definitely beats staying at a resort!
We had a great stay at Scott and Melissa's place. The location was great -- we never had any issues with finding it and the instructions and communication was easy and clear. Scott let us use his surfboards and spent time with us to point out some great restaurants and surf spots. Everything was ready by the time we arrived including towels and sheets, and the place was clean. It's a great location to stay if you want to hang out in North Shore away from the tourists in Waikiki.
Melissa and Scott have a lovely property and are welcoming hosts! I stayed in the Green room, comfortable bed and private. They are located in a convenient area, close to town but you feel that you are in the remote jungle of the North Shore! If you desire a peaceful environment, this is the place for you!
Amazing location, like a safari w/ surfers and yogis instead of lions! Though the glamping accommodations are luxurious it is important to remember you are still camping and will be exposed to the elements: be prepared to enjoy.
We wanted to get off the beaten path and dig into Oahu and this was the place. We even had some bad weather the couple of days that we stayed there and the Eco Hideaway held tough. I was very curious about the conveniences but they where all great. Shower was hot, stove worked great (we even got some fresh organic eggs from a farm next door), and we even had some electricity for some small stuff. This location is also very close to the beaches, Dole plantation, and more. Melissa and Scott where also a great host and helped us with things to do around the area and where to eat. Definitely a one of a kind experience.
Scott and Melissa's Eco-Hideaway was the perfect place for us to stay for our seven day North Shore adventure. Both Scott and Melissa were more than gracious with their time and were very responsive to any questions that we had. The Eco-Hideaway felt similar to a camping experience which we loved - away from main roads, tucked away in the hills of Waialua. It was really nice to be on the far West end of the "7 mile miracle" as it forced us to drive through the awesome town of Haleiwa and see the entire coast line on our search for great surf. It was so nice to fall asleep each not to the sound of the nearby stream and wake up to the sunlight and sounds of the birds. On the plane ride home we were already going through our calendars trying to plan our return visit to this awesome hideaway. Many thanks to Scott and Melissa for providing an awesome place to stay :)
