A Lake District hostel / bunkhouse in a stunning location - Half (well a third to be honest) way up Helvellyn, 1.2 miles from Glenridding & Ullswater Shoreline
You will be staying in the closest property to Helvellyn Summit - fabulous if you want to attempt the famous Striding edge or a gentler way to the top. If you prefer easier hikes, trail running, biking or open water swimming there are a wealth of options right from the door.

The space
2 bunk rooms, each sleeping up to 8 people. 3 bathrooms, 1 of which includes a bath. Cosy living/fire room, large dining room, commercial style kitchen.

Exclusive access to this part of the lodge... ...but if you are looking for something even bigger then we can add on the other side of the lodge too (2 bedrooms - sleeping 14 and a further 2 bathrooms and community room) - contact us to discuss.

Other things to note
Once your booking is confirmed you will receive directions and then 24 to 48 hours before your stay the AirBnB system will send other info such as your unique KEY CODE for the main smart lock, WiFi codes etc.

QUICK ESSENTIAL INFO:

YOU NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING - all 28 bunks have full size single mattresses. Most people find that a fitted single sheet works well, and bring either duvet or sleeping bag, and a pillow or two.

The lodge has a commercial style kitchen, fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery for up to 30. There is a cooker and hob(s), microwave (which is also a grill/conventional oven), slow/pressure cooker, rice cooker, a dishwasher, 2 fridges and a freezer.
We provide cleaning stuff, dishwasher tablets, etc. you may wish to bring a couple of extra tea towels (we provide 2 but they can get wet) and perhaps kitchen towel/paper?

There will be enough kindling and wood for a couple of good fires in the log burner should you wish - there are also 2 honesty boxes for additional logs should you want them - £10 each box - to the side of the log store.

Neighbourhood highlights

It’s a fantastic building which from the 1840s was Greenside lead and silver mine offices and workshops. It has been a hostel since the 1970s, but wasn’t used for the last 10 years and needed some (a lot) of love. We bought it a couple of years ago and have completely renovated it – it’s modern where it needs to be, harks back to its origins where it can, and has a few quirks here and there.

The idea is to provide an ideal place for groups of trekkers, climbers, runners, swimmers, cyclists and triathletes (and other groups) to come and have group accommodation without slumming it – it is the antithesis to the drab and functional hostels and bunkhouses that remind you of 80s school changing rooms and doctors waiting rooms…
