The space

The cottage has been designed and furnished for those who look for the finer things in life – who love beautiful natural surrounds as much as they appreciate a refined living space. People visit Cliff Cottage, Kilkee for many reasons. For some it’s simply a great place to come and unwind and do very little. Others come to explore the outstanding natural beauty of the area.

The cottage offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Kilkee’s famous cliffs and its magnificent horse-shoe bay. As one of only two houses that enjoy a shore-edge location, the cottage provides direct access to the East cliff, George’s Head and Kilkee Golf Course.

“It’s no coincidence that the cottage’s history and location are synonymous with relaxation and rejuvenation. The cottage is built on a site that, in the late 1830s and 1840s, was occupied by hot baths. These were fed by water pumped from the sea, offering a natural therapy to visitors from afar.”

Holidaying in style is part of the beauty of Cliff Cottage, Kilkee. This elegant, up-market cottage that sleeps 7 people is perfectly finished and furnished, offering absolute premium quality and high-end comfort – to see to your every need.

The open-plan extension is filled with natural light and designed to ‘bring the outside in’ with seascape views that surround you.

A spacious dining area with large table to seat 8 invites you to dine with the sea as your dramatic backdrop.

Wall-to-wall sliding doors open on to your own cliff top patio with patio furniture and gas barbeque. Dine al fresco to the sound of the waves below or breakfast as you relax and watch life out on the water.

Relax and revive in your comfortable living area with restful, wood-burning stove.

The kitchen is modern, streamlined and fully-equipped with gas/electric range cooker, larder fridge, dishwasher, freezer and microwave.

There is an adjacent utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and large hot press. Adjoining is a Toilet and Shower Room with both electric and mains shower units and a large Belfast sink.

The original cottage now accommodates 4 bedrooms, all individually styled with a mix of contemporary and antique furnishing. 7 People can be comfortably accommodated by:

1 Double Bedroom with en suite and panoramic sea views
1 Twin Bedroom with en suite and breathtaking sea view
1 Twin Bedroom* with view over Kilkee Pier and Beach

Beyond Kilkee
Cliff Cottage, Kilkee is the ideal base from which to enjoy day trips to:

The Cliffs of Moher – Soaring 702 feet above the Atlantic, the incredible Cliffs of Moher are top of the list of Irish ‘must sees.’ Offering magnificent views across to the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and Loop Head, the Cliffs are a geological wonder, a piece of Irish history and a world of beautiful flora and fauna.

Wild Atlantic Way – This world-famous coastal route that spans seven of Ireland’s counties – from Donegal to Galway, Kerry to Cork.

Local towns – For some good shopping, head off to the bustling market town of Ennis (boutique capital of Clare) or heritage town, Kilrush.

Castles, towers and ruins – Uncover the history of the region, from Kilfenora Cathedral to O’Brien’s Tower at the Cliffs of Moher.

Loop Head Peninsula – This headland has the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Shannon Estuary on the other and was awarded a European Destinations of Excellence Award in 2010.

Ferry to Kerry – You are just twenty minutes by ferry from all the beauty of Kerry including the dramatic landscape of the Dingle Peninsula and the elegance of Killarney.

Dolphin watching – You won’t want to miss one of these incredible cruises that leave regularly from Carrigaholt or Kilrush.

Perfectly Placed

•Nature lovers – Seabirds, seals and a whole world of maritime flora and fauna make their home on West Clare’s unspoilt coastline.
•Golfers – Players can enjoy the Cottage’s close proximity (2 minutes on foot!) to Kilkee Golf Club, while both Doonbeg and Kilrush Golf Clubs are just 15 minutes away.
•Walkers – For everything from scenic Atlantic cliff top expeditions to spectacular cross-country hikes and quiet walks on country roads, Cliff Cottage is a walker’s perfect base.
•Water sport enthusiasts – Swimming, snorkelling, paddle-boarding, kayaking, scuba-diving and sailing can all be enjoyed from the pier – just 100m from your front door.
•Cyclists – You’re in prime position for the West Clare Cycle Way – a 70 kilometre sign-posted cycle route that stretches from Killimer on the Shannon Estuary, to Lahinch in County Clare. Or choose to enjoy the clearly signposted Loop Head and Dolphin Cycle Ways.
•Fishing fans – Whether on the beach, from the rocks in front of the house or off the local cliffs, the choice of premium fishing spots is yours.
•Artists, photographers, bird watchers and geologists will all be fascinated and inspired by the incredible Kilkee landscape and its natural riches.

We were 6 people staying in Cliff Cottage, my husband and myself, my 70-something parents, and my 21 year old son and his girlfriend - and all of us had an absolutely wonderful time. The cottage itself is completely perfect - Mary has thought of every detail and I agree with the other reviews which said the reality is even better than the photos - such spectacular scenery right out of the windows, and large, spacious, light and well-appointed rooms. Kilkee itself is fantastic, several dining and pub options within walking distance, and lots more within short driving distance. The West Coast of Ireland is spectacular, with beautiful cliff walks - the Cliffs of Moher are justifiably famous and definitely worth a visit but we really loved Loop Head and went back three times for walking. Most of all we were treated with hospitality and friendliness wherever we went. I can't thank Mary enough for all of her detailed information on the house and the local sights and restaurants, she was always on the end of an email as we planned our trip and on text while we were there. You will be delighted with Cliff Cottage, I promise. We are already trying to figure out how to go back.

It does what it says on the tin and then a huge lot more! Cliff Cottage is a uniquely beautiful 'home from home' with absolutely magnificent and uninterrupted views over Kilkee bay. The original cottage is tastefully decorated in keeping with its style and the design of the modern extension has been blended in seamlessly to offer a fabulous open living area, equipped with all mod cons, natural lighting and wall to wall breathtaking views across the bay. The fit out throughout is of a very high quality, with subtle colour tones, beautiful floors and a very spacious look and feel. The description if anything understates the quality and location of the property. It is a short walk from the town and all local amenities. Our meet & greet was seamless as was checkout and there is a full set of detailed instructions with helpful information provided on site. Mary was available at any time & checked back with us to see if we needed anything. Great customer service. I don't think we have stayed in a better equipped property anywhere and we have no hesitation in recommending it. Top class service and property that goes the extra mile - in a word 'excellent'.

We had the pleasure of spending three nights in Mary’s cliff side cottage. I traveled with my two children, husband and a family friend. There was more than enough space for all of us. While the view is definitely the highlight of the cottage, the cottage is in impeccable condition with great care taken to every detail. The cottage is so beautiful and comfortable we did not want to leave. The cottage is located in a nice quiet area and is one of two houses located right on the shore. From the cottage it is a short walk to downtown Kilkee and Kilkee beach. We also enjoyed a longer walk to the magnificent cliffs of the Clare Coast. Mary is a generous and gracious host. Before our arrive she sent a list of recommended activities for the area based on our interests. Upon our arrival, Mary greeted us at the cottage and walked through the well documented instructions. She stocked the cottage with treats to eat and drink and she even made a delicious loaf of Guinness Bread. We arrived in the evening with no plans for dinner and Mary quickly called and arranged for a delicious dinner at Murphy Blacks. Mary made us feel completely welcome! If you have the opportunity to stay at Mary’s cottage, I would highly recommend it.
