My husband and I stayed at Orchard from July 14-16, 2017. We loved the place, to say the least. It is a British construction, with high beams, complete with a mantle, porch and a front garden, which offers gorgeous views of the Nainital town at all times of the day and night. Prashant's mother is a warm and homeley host who can serve some amazing home-cooked meals. I shall be thankful to them for the concern they displayed when I was slightly unwell. We have come back with fond memories of the place and plans to spend more time on this property. A word of caution before you book though. This place is somebody's home and guests are expected to treat it like one. Loud, raucous scenes are not appreciated by the hosts and hence, if you want to enjoy loud late nights, getting sloshed, or hotel-like amenities, this place is not for you.

Thank you so much Shuchi, for the wonderful stay and for leaving such a profound review. It's guests like you who inspire us to do better everyday and become a better host. Also thanks a ton for spreading our concern too, this place is only for people looking for a quite and peaceful stay, not for merry-makers and night owls. We are looking forward to meet you and Ravi again, so don't just say, do come back soon and plan a longer stay!

Always my first preference for a stay at Nainital, Prashant with his supportive and helpful guidance, and Aunty with her unbeatable food and care, this has turned out be my faviorite places to go in Uttarakhand. Staying here for a second time actually felt the same as coming back to my own house after a long time, it was even better than our previous stay! If you happen to be visiting Nainital and would like to have a peaceful and pampering stay with the best view of Nainital, don't think twice and book this gem of a place. Although, this place is not suitable for those tourists who would like to do a lot of touristy-activities as it is far from those spots and main areas, in a quaint and quite locality with a 10 minute path that may not be suitable to all, we didn't have a problem with it though. Thank you Prashant, aunty and uncle for giving us the best treatment throughout our stay once again. I promise, I'd be coming back soon to enjoy the "best masala chai ever" and for the amazing hosts and view!!

I always prefer Airbnb over hotels however this property was worst ever. This is my first negative review about any property. Property is like a Dharamshala and miss all basic hygiene. First of all, reaching there is very painful. Path used to walk towards this property is very bad and you will find cow dung every 10 meter. The never ending path leads to a host who are too interfering and use tone which kills it all. Bathroom need immediate renovation. They don't provide soap or any basic amenity proactively and even after asking Aunty tells you that you should bring it yourself. We were told that we will get 2 rooms and five beds as per our booking. They call dressing area outside bathroom a room. 4 out of 5 Blankets were smelly. Host removes sitting benches from outside even if you want to enjoy scenic beauty silently after certain point of time. I told them that I want to sit outside to mediate but they didn't allow. Sometime I felt, I am in Jail where we have to follow orders of host. If not followed, they will come to fight with you. They call their helper Bahadur who is replaced by another every 10/15 days as per local people and it is due to their bad behaviour. I have clicked many photographs to convey that don't opt this property at any cost.

Response from Prashant:
To start with, since the troubled guest is kind enough to leave a review after creating a nuisance at the house, he began with stating that it's his first time using Airbnb and hence wanted to know the details of our place, which are all already mentioned clearly in the description. Clearly, the guest had a problem understanding the concept of a homestay, and even after being communicated constantly about the house rules and the accessibility, they started complaining in a very rude manner upon their arrival, and acted like they didn't read any details about the homestay. I seriously can't help if all you could see was cow dung on the way up to our home, and that really explains a lot about you, I don't even have to explain. Calling our quaint homestay a Dharamshala is just another example of your agitated mindset, as in fact, even Dharamshalas are usually very comfortable and provide a good accommodation. I can't help myself from ignore your hateful review, which you already mentioned writing before leaving, not clearing out any remaining dues, because it really doesn't bother me as problematic guests like you are an exceptions for our peaceful homestay. The amount of disturbance your ill-mannered, impolite caused upon arrival compelled us to remove the benches at night as we already had complaints from other guests about the nuisance your family members created in the garden area, which is meant for reading and relaxing, and not for distupting the quietness of our place which is much needed for our guests. Nitpicking about the rooms or hygiene wouldn't help you giving us a negative review either, as we personally look after the hygiene and the bare necessities at our place, and the reviews speak enough about that. I agree with you, on one point though, that you would have surely felt like being at some jail, and I would give you complete credit for creating your personal jail at our home, owing to your criminal-like behaviour. Nobody wants a loud mouthed, ill-tempered and misbehaved person who shouts at people for telling him to be quiet, you surely would find solace in jail, I bet. I've learnt my lesson and now would be extra careful with future guests who sound anything like you, or state that they are a 'Sattvik family who don't even eat garlic or onion' to compell me into accepting their reservation. Also, a message from the porter, who said he felt quite disgusted with you when you didn't had the tiniest of tip for him, and that too, after your loud concern about clearing the remaining dues, which you finally did not clear, as it was always your plan not to do so. Well, good luck fleeing from places and acting like thugs, demeaning homestays, and leaving your hosts with regrets and bitter experience. All the best.

Prashant's is a very quaint house, with a nice garden and a few benches. And from his place, the view of the Nainital lake and the surrounding hills is breathtaking! Most roads around the Nainital lake are very narrow. If you are planning to drive your own car or hire a taxi to travel to Nainital, you will need to properly understand where your vehicle could be parked. It becomes especially difficult during peak season. Also, you may have to pay entry fee every time you enter the Mall Road. Mall Road may be made 'one way' during, say, evening hours (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) One may 'underestimate' the difficulty of doing the steep climb to Prashant's place (even more so if you have to climb up all the way from the Mall Road). Please write to Prashant and get a clear understanding before you make your booking. Uncle, Aunty and Prashant are very nice people.

A must visit place with a breathtaking view of Nainital. One can have a complete view of Nainital right from the garden area. We were welcomed warmly by aunty. Though you have to cover a steep climb of around 300 mtr to reach there but trust me it's completely worth. Overall experience was very nice. I will strongly recommend Prashant's home stay to anyone visiting nainital.

I'm a student living in Delhi, but my head and my heart is always wandering in the landscapes of Nainital, my hometown. I try to seize every opportunity to go back and spend time at home. Having an eclectic taste for music and movies, I often achieve an unbelievable level of procrastination, love to gorge on anything and everything, and can be extremely awkward sometimes, like the most of us.
My parents would be the ones usually hosting you, as I'm mostly engaged with my studies at Delhi. They love meeting new people, and would give you tons of information and directions on travelling in and around the town, often over a cuppa tea :)
