The space

The house was completely renovated in late 2015. So while it has 100 year old brick fireplaces, it also has large, modern bathrooms and a warm, welcoming kitchen. The home is large with 2,000 square feet of living space and 10ft ceilings to suit modern living.

Guest access

All common areas (e.g. Living room, Kitchen).

Interaction with guests

I interact with guests as often as I'm needed.

The neighbourhood

Located in South Side Slopes, about 10 minute walk to E. Carson St. and just a 10-15 minute drive to downtown (UPMC), or 8 minutes to Oakland (Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, and Duquesne).

South side is one of the most unique neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. At one point, it had the most bars on a single street in the U.S. (E. Carson St). While it is packed full of fun nightlife, there is an evolving sophistication with more and more fine dining choices than ever before. From button boutique shops to tattoo parlors to five story consignment shops, it has something for everyone and will take weeks to fully explore.

Getting around

The bus stop is just a 1 minute walk for easy access throughout Pittsburgh. Uber's are also a very popular choice for getting around the city. For me, I prefer to explore on foot as the location is close to plenty of nightlife, fun shops and dining establishments.

Charles had great communication and was flexible to allow us to drop our bags off several hours before official check-in. The interior of the house has been recently remodeled, and the bathroom and kitchen are quite nice. We stayed in the basement room which doesn't have a door into the basement, but is covered by a sheet. This means that sound travels, so when others get up in the house, you'll hear them. The house is near restaurants and bars and situated in a typical Pittsburgh neighborhood with steep hills and narrow streets. Street parking is free, but is minimal. Also, guests should know that the family owns a pet cat who may wander into your room.

The place is very clean and nice. As a note, there is only a curtain between you and the upstairs, and two flights of stairs between you and the bathroom. It's in a wonderful location and as long as you are aware of that coming in, a good place to stay with a nice separate entrance. Charles's mom was very welcoming.

Peaceful, quiet neighborhood, 1 minute walk to the bus-stop and about 17 minutes to downtown. Dolly was very nice, she bakes and her cakes tastes so good. Its my second time at Charles', I really like it there.
