The space

"Drennen Ridge Guest House is a one-story home with a large, open living space that includes a living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. The house sleeps 4 guests. The large master bedroom has a queen bed and ensuite bathroom. Two additional guests can be comfortably accommodated in the second bedroom, which also has a queen bed, and full bath immediately next to it. The two bedrooms and baths are quite separate from each other, which accommodates two couples ideally. A pack and play is available - let us know if you need it. Well-supervised children are welcome. The house is stocked with family games, books and jigsaw puzzles, as well as a Smart 48" flat panel smart TV. There is not cable, but the house has a large library of movies, as well as Roku and a blue-tooth VCR. The house has WiFi, which should support your own Netflix or Amazon Prime membership. There is no phone at the house, but you are welcome to use ours. There is a washer and dryer. Guests may enjoy interacting with our 4 draft horses - 2 Belgians, 1 Suffolk and a B/S cross who live directly across the driveway; there will be apples or carrots in the fridge, if you want to make friends with The Big Boys. There is extensive lawn and outdoor space around the house, with croquet, ladder ball and cornhole games available in season. Grocery store, gas, pharmacy, liquor store and several local restaurants are one mile away.
You will find breakfast provisions for your first morning in the house - farm eggs, coffee, tea, cocoa, orange juice, bread or muffins, jam, fruit. The kitchen has some basic cooking staples for your use if you choose to cook during your stay (flour, sugar, oil, condiments, etc.), and is extensively equipped.

Guests are welcome to enjoy our perennial gardens and pond at the farmhouse during their stay. Artists and photographers have especially enjoyed visiting our grounds.

Guest access

The house will be your private residence during your stay. Our farmhouse is within view across the horse meadow, and we will arrange access when you book. There is an attached garage, where you may park motorcycles and store sports equipment. Bicycles, canoes and kayaks are available for rent in our nearby village. The porch has two steps and both bathrooms have bathtubs, so the property is not wheelchair accessible.
We love animals, but can not accommodate pets in the guest house, as others may have allergies. You will see Wilson, our friendly little dog, greeting you whenever you come in, as well as a few other neighbor pups and kitties. Our check in and out times are flexible if the house is available.

Interaction with guests

While we live within view of the guest house, we value privacy and will leave you to enjoy your vacation time. You are welcome to come by to chat, to talk about what to see in the area and to enjoy our extensive perennial gardens in season. We enjoy living here, and can point you in the directions where your interests lie. If you are looking to just get away, we respect your privacy and space.

Other things to note

Pocahontas County is a year-round natural playground. Snowshoe Mt. Resort is 25 minutes north - a short drive for a day of skiing, with privacy and quiet when you leave the slopes; most summer weekends offer events in the Snowshoe Village. In milder weather, you can fly fish, hike, kayak and bike to your heart's content - the Greenbrier River Trail offers 76 miles of 1% grade, and access is a mile away. This trail was voted number one running and walking trail in the Blue Ridge for 2015. Bird watching is a rewarding activity in this natural setting. At night, settle back on the deck and watch for shooting stars and meteors in our pristine skies, with little light pollution. Cass and Durbin Scenic Railroads, and Green Bank Observatory offer interesting visits and are close by, as well as a growing number of artisan shops. There are two local golf courses; Raven is a Gary Player designed course at Snowshoe that offers challenging play and magnificent topography. Locally, Pocahontas Country Club is a 9 hole course that is enjoyable, friendly, rarely crowded and is inexpensive to play.

There is plenty of room to stretch in the mountains - your body, your interests, your friendships and your activities. Local people are friendly and helpful, and there is plenty to keep all ages and interests busy. If you are looking to unwind and recharge, quiet and solitude abound.

Please treat the guest house as your home - leave your shoes at the door, pick up after yourself and enjoy all that the house has to offer. We are smoke-free inside the house and out. No parties, please.
We currently have no add-on charges - same price for 2 people and 4 people, which is our occupancy limit unless otherwise contracted prior to arrival (this allows us flexibility to accept adults and children that may exceed 4). We have included a 6% local occupancy tax in our daily fee so you will not be bothered with extra costs - what you see is what you pay. We do not pass along a cleaning charge. We hope you will conserve, by turning off lights when you are not at home; there are two outside lights for your safe return at night, and you are welcome to leave a light on inside to guide you. We have also placed nightlights in various outlets for your safety and comfort. You are welcome to adjust heat/air-conditioning for your comfort; we appreciate your consideration and conservation in adjusting the thermostat when you are out for the day.
There is a $500 damage deposit that will not be charged to your credit card unless there is damage to the house or items missing at the end of your stay, so this should not be a deterrent to our responsible guests. The credit card hold is released within 48 hours of your departure, giving us time to check the house for any issues. We have never had a problem!

Our family stayed at Drennan Ridge for a couple of days and I cannot express how much we LOVED this magical place! Trish & Mike were the most amazing hosts! We truly felt as if we were staying with family. My son (age 11) fell in love with their dog, Wilson. Every morning my son's face lit up when Wilson was awaiting him at our front door. Mike even taught my son how to drive a tractor!!!! It's such a peaceful place. I awoke every morning to the beautiful horses in front of our home. We were given apples & carrots to feed the horses. I fell in love with Red, one of the horses on the property. Trish & Mike provided fresh farm eggs & homemade jelly. My son visited their garden and was given the opportunity to pick some cucumbers & tomatoes. We cannot express how grateful we are for the outpour of love from everyone on the farm. We cannot wait to come back again! A piece of our hearts stayed there! ❤️

This is a quiet, comfortable place to stay when visiting the Marlinton area. Be sure to visit Cranberry Glades and the Highland Scenic Highway.

This place was great!! Trish and Mike were so helpful before and during the trip and so friendly! The place was very clean and cozy! Close to a grocery store, liquor store and convenient store. Star gazing on their back porch was my favorite part! It was also not too far from snowshoe mountain and lots of different hiking trails! We had a blast and if we ever came back to West Virginia, we would definitely stay here again!

Trish and Mike are wonderfully attentive hosts, and their house on Drennen Ridge provided the perfect spot to take advantage of skiing and popular hiking locations. We loved visiting with the horses and relaxing in their perfectly appointed rental in our downtime. We would definitely visit again!

What a wonderful place for a little weekend getaway! We stayed at Trish&Michael's place for a short weekend snowboarding trip and everything was more than perfect! The property is beautiful, house was very clean and well equipped! We had everything we needed to cook our dinner after a tiring day on the slope in their kitchen (lots of pots, pans and kitchen tools for you to use, even seasonings and condiments too!) The outdoor gas grill came in handy for a little bbq as well. Waking up to a view with horses and country barn topped everything off!!
