New Moon villa is one of the Desa Bulan (Moon Village) villas, located minutes away from the centre of Ubud, Bali. The fusion of typical Balinese thatch roofing and modern lines, gives this villa a unique contemporary yet homely feel.

The space

Beautiful 2 bedroom villa with private swimming pool overlooking the rice fields. We have an air mattress making it possible to sleep with 3 in the upstairs bedroom. We can also accommodate a child under 150cm (free) in the downstairs bedroom on a small sofa bed.

Interior spaces that are stunning and cosy: New Moon's interiors are largely white and wood in colour, making them cool and elegant; whilst the open plan living/dining area gives the feeling of embracing the natural surroundings.

The kitchen's combination of wood and terrazzo surfaces are an interior designer's dream, and offer an unequaled location for throwing together a family meal or crafting a culinary masterpiece for a special occasion. Meanwhile the large white L-shaped sofa and the unusual large wooden table in the living area are both aesthetically pleasing and luxuriantly comfortable; creating an ideal setting for eating, drinking or just relaxing during the day.

The two bedrooms also encompass a perfect blend of elegance and relaxation; dark wooden flooring is matched with light coloured four posted beds that offer a great night's sleep every night. The upstairs bedroom has air-conditioning, while the downstairs bedroom contains a portable air cooler unit. With an ensuite bathroom, private terrace and unblocked views of the natural surroundings, each bedroom becomes a haven for its occupants; to top it off the master bedroom opens onto the pool deck and features an open air bathroom with terrazzo bathtub, for a truly opulent and romantic escape.

Peaceful and private outdoor spaces, with a view: The villa's crowning feature is perhaps its private 7m swimming pool opening to the neighbouring rice fields, (a unique attribute in the estate) which is set into its own terrace with sun loungers, perfect for sun worshippers who want some peace and quiet. The exterior spaces also include; a second lounge in the back garden, an outdoor dining table and a lounging sala with plush seating, all with jaw-dropping views over the adjacent rice paddies. The multitude of outdoor options means that whether you want to sip a sundowner with friends, enjoy an alfresco evening meal, or curl up with a good book, you can find the perfect setting here.
The resort also has a larger communal pool (good for swimming laps) and children’s pool for guest use.

New Moon is a fantastic villa, with a great space / layout and truly great staff. The villa is beautiful and decorated with skill and great taste. Views of the fields are stunning, especially from the top room in the morning. It is divided in two - one kitchen/diner/lounge which can be opened up in the day and also cosy at night with the doors closed. Separately are two bedrooms each with an outdoor bathroom, fully equipped. Downstairs has no AC but a fan and upstairs has AC. The outdoor bathrooms are great and very unique. Worth a mention - if insects/geckos/frogs freak you out, this isn't the place for you. They are all common in the villa given the location. Also, there is cockerel nearby which starts screeching from 6.30am for a few hours....was a bit annoying but made sure we were up early and made the most of the day. The villa is at the end of a cul de sac with two/three others. 10/15 min drive from ubud town - inr70k each way. Putu the driver is a lovely guy and good value. Before arranging any tours/excursions, check with him first. He can offer whatever any of the other companies can, and will do it cheaper. Wayan and her helper are also great. Breakfast is included (all tasty, banana pancakes were sensational) and they can cook a lovely meal for a reasonable fee. The dinner she cooked us was immeasurably better than the delivery we ordered for around the same price. Do not order delivery, arrange a dinner with Wayan. All in all, a great property with a personal touch of luxury from the staff. We were staying as one couple which made it reasonable value compared to a luxury hotel. As two couples or a small family, it is great value.

WE LOVED:  The beautiful garden, our own pool and the airy, spacious vibe in the villa. Daily delicious breakfast made for us and beautiful fresh flowers throughout the property. Views of the rice paddies and all the rescue dogs roaming about the complex became our friends! All the geckos, skinks, frogs and bugs who came out at night, beautiful butterflies, birds and more by day. The pretty and quiet village location just a short ride from Ubud. Large, quality bed in the master bedroom, which has a great mattress topper. Fierce a/c in the second bedroom. Wayan was very professional, and discrete and lovely; she was a meticulous cleaner, answered our many questions about Balinese culture and even showed us how to make an offering. Plenty of bedding and towel changes. A scooter and 2 helmets to use. Large kitchen and huge fridge to store all our food. COMMENTS: The property has many steps and different levels. We didn't like the steep steps up to the second bedroom and there is no handrail. This bedroom doesn't have an en-suite, rather the bathroom is on the ground floor back down those pesky stairs! The second bedroom's bed is not great. The master bedroom does not have a/c - it has a fan and a portable cooling unit which was far from cool. Often, WiFi speeds are not good enough for simple email downloading, and forget video downloads, for instance. The villa is right by the drop off point at New Moon and the security hut so it can be a little noisy by day and the (great security) guys chat to each other by night. This is where the dogs hang out, too ie barking at times – and a cock crows regularly at 3am – which we got used to. The pool overlooks a beautiful rice paddy - don’t be surprised to see local farmers or women here working in the fields and making offers by the fence. So no nude swimming + this made us feel less happy to leave our personal items and electronic devices on view (even though we know Bali is very safe generally). There are numerous folding glass doors that must be closed and pool seat covering that must be brought in each night - it's quite a performance but Wayan and her team can do this for you each night, if you wish. The villa has a traditional, but impractical, thatched roof. This can mean leaks when it rains, gecko muck to be cleaned up each morning and a kind of gritty wood dust that settles in many places eg all over the dining table. Heavy rains and strong wind caused a large leak into the master bedroom seating area/kids' sleeping nook where we had a whole bunch of paper and electronics, if we had known about the chance of water damage, we would not have left them there. The property, kitchen appliances, and some contents are tired generally but we have had a...

We had the most wonderful stay at New Moon Villa. We didn't want to leave . A beautiful villa in an amazing setting . It was lovely to able to completely relax just outside the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Wayan, Ratna and Putu are a great team and made us feel so welcome and at home in New Moon. Breakfast is a delight , eating delicious banana pancakes over looking the rice paddies - not a time to worry about your waist line ! We would really recommend getting Wayan to cook for you one evening . We had best chicken curry so far in Bali. Putu the driver is very friendly , helpful and very knowledgable about Ubud and places to visit . We previously read about being close to nature . This is wonderfully correct and our two young boys loved frog and gecko spotting especially in the evenings . Just a quick note for families . As you can see from pictures there is not a pool fence and so we did have to watch our young boys who can't swim at all times . But this was not a problem as we spent the days relaxing by the pool side. I would really recommend staying at this beautiful villa. We hope to return in the future .

Really gorgeous house with amazing and helpful staff. Can highly recommend renting the scooter through Wayan for day trips and getting into town. Only 10 mins into town but recommend going early to avoid crowds and traffic. Although it's a little way out, it's blissful being able to escape to a beautiful, quiet haven! We stayed for 3 nights and didn't want to leave! Loved having breakfast out side under the frangipani tree overlooking the paddies and ducks. Can't recommend highly enough. Also definitely make the most of using their driver, Putu. He's brilliant!! They also kindly let us check in early and check out a little bit later - as I said - we didn't want to leave!

This is such a great place to stay! We loved having Wayan cook for us - which can be requested a day prior. It was so nice to stay in and enjoy the place after a day of sightseeing. Putu the driver is amazing. And so funny! They have a friendly dog that comes over for a visit every once in awhile...which is cute! We just love the people of Bali! They are all so wonderful. We hope to come back for a third time soon!

it's a great experience to spend 2 nights in such a different place comparing to the other Bali area. the villa was next to the rice terrace, and you are waken up every morning by the nature sound which you can hardly find in the city life. both Wayan and Putu's service and communication were great. There was a hot water system proplem accured during our stay which made it imperfect but we got understanding at the end. I'll certainly recommend the villa and the serving team tomy friends and wish we will visit this villa sometime in the future.BTW. Wayan's breakfast especially the balinese one was great, don't miss it!
