Spean Lodge is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and located in the Highland village of Spean Bridge, just 9 miles north of Fort William. Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain is close by and just 6 miles away is the Nevis Range Ski centre. There's a multitude of local activities from hill walking to kayaking, mountain biking to wildlife watching. After all, this area is the Outdoor Capital of the UK! Of course, you can also enjoy visiting the Commando Memorial, Caledonian Canal, local castles, heritage sites and whisky distilleries or take a ride on the Harry Potter steam train. We have great restaurants in the village from fine Scottish dining to pub food with many more options only a short drive away.
Spean Bridge is on the West Coast Railway line with daily trains south to London via Glasgow and Edinburgh, including the Caledonian Sleeper service. We are also just one train stop from Fort William.
The A82 trunk road from Glasgow to Inverness runs through the village. Spean Bridge is referred to as the Crossroads of the Highlands owing to its excellent road links to the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness and the Cairngorms National Park. Consequently, we have good bus connections to all parts of the Highlands. Local car rentals are available in Fort William.
We expect guests to respect our home and care for it as if it was their own. Please note that there is a strict no smoking policy and we do not accommodate pets.
We opened Spean Lodge as Bed and Breakfast and self catering accommodation about 15 years ago. I'm a history graduate and have worked for newspapers, historic churches and in museum management. Suzanne has lots of secretarial and admin experience and is a great home cook and baker!
I'm a literature and movie fan and the Highlands has been inspiration for many writers and film directors. Suzanne has a keen interest in antiques and fine art which is reflected in the style that the Lodge has been furnished and decorated.
We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the Highlands and recommending the more unusual places to explore.
You'll find us approachable, cheerful and willing to give you all the help or advice you need for a memorable stay.
