Located 50 mins drive southwest of Cody, literally at the end of the road in the sought-after Upper South Fork Valley, this magnificent 280± acre ranch is bordered by towering granite cliffs on one side and South Fork river frontage on the other. Located about 2 hours from the beautiful Yellowstone National Park.

The space

The Flying H Ranch is located 45 minutes outside of town. The last 7 miles or so are down a well maintained dirt road. This ranch is quite isolated so if you are looking to unplug from phones, internet, and cable and truly enjoy nature this is the spot for you!

There are three homes located on the ranch. This particular home is called Cottonwood and can fit 9 people comfortably. Cottonwood sits in the middle of the propery with incredible views of the mountains. This original log cabin and tin roof provides a sense of nostalgia, while offering the comforts of modern living. The bedrooms are not connected to the living space and kitchen. All rooms lead outside providing a gorgeous view for each guest from the comfort of their bedroom. It also has a small pond and a large grass area. This is a prefect space for croquet, bochi ball etc. Each of the three available homes on the property are spaced far enough apart, for plenty of privacy from other guests.

Please be aware that there is no internet and very little cell phone reception. This is the perfect place to unplug, relax, and enjoy God's country. There is plenty to keep you busy, including horseback riding, rafting, hiking, fishing, or just relaxing on the porch looking over the valley.

The private setting allows for year round, back door access to thousands of acres of designated wilderness, all part of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. Towering granite mountains, waterfalls, and canyons surround the ranch on three sides. Two miles of South Fork river frontage deliver exceptional fly-fishing opportunities for native Yellowstone cutthroat, rainbows, brook, and German brown trout. Resident elk, deer, pronghorn and bighorn sheep herds occupy the valley pastures and rolling hillsides. Big game hunting, overnight pack trips and trail riding excursions can depart from the ranch gates in multiple directions for an unmatched sporting experience.

The entrance to Yellowstone National Park is just over an hour from Cody (50 miles). You could spend days exploring the natural hot springs, geysers, waterfalls, wildlife and of course you can't leave without seeing Old Faithful.

So many things to love about this place, particularly for those wanting to "get away from it all". The place is huge and offers tons of privacy. Our family is only 4 people, so we had oodles of space. We could have had another family of 4 staying there at the same time and still been great. There are other houses on the ranch, but they are really spaced well apart. The view really is amazing too - we couldn't get enough of the mountains (with snow still on them in August!) and river valley. Appliances are dated but fully operational. Fireplaces are in both the master suite and the family room, though we only used the one in the family room. Very charming and cozy. There is a pond inside the fence on this house, so if you have small children you will want to keep an eye on them when they're in the yard. The decor suits the western locale, to the point of being kitschy. PETA members need not inquire! Walls are covered with heads, skins and full mounts of various critters including bears, elk, deer, bobcats and birds of prey (even what appeared to be a golden eagle - though I'm no ornithologist). The kitchen is well appointed (though again, dated) and we had no problems cooking, serving and cleaning up after meals. The surrounding areas are absolutely gorgeous. We took walks daily through the ranch down to the river (around a mile from the Cottonwood House). There are plenty of fish in the river but I was only able to catch one - a beautiful 2 pound Yellowstone Cutthroat (which I promptly released after landing). They have 40 head of cattle on the ranch and a handful of friendly horses, including a beige one who seemed quite fond of my kids and let them pet her. Only a few things bothered us about the place and they were minor and not unexpected for a ranch house. First, it really is remote. If you forget or lose or break anything, you're looking at a two hour round-trip drive to Cody. Second, there's no bathroom adjoining the family/dining/kitchen area - you have to go outside and use one of the bathrooms attached to the bedrooms. Last, mice will eat any food left out (even if in sealed packaging) so we ended up keeping most of it in the fridge whether it needed refrigeration or not. All-in-all, it was a great place and thoroughly exceeded our expectations!

We had a very nice time at the ranch. Many kids plus dog enjoyed every second of our 5 night stay. One of our most beautiful trips thus far. Impressive views, extremely quiet moments with many options to spend your time with: reading, fly fishing, hiking, horse back riding, cooking, chilling, board game playing, etc. Be prepared and bring food and drinks from town and plenty of it, so you don't have to drive too often. Because it is so beautiful out there, we did not mind the drive itself however.

Be sure to get here before sunset because it is very dangerous to get there. Also, the rooms are not all connected.

Our family of five spent four nights at the Flying H Ranch "Cottonwood" home. It was a truly special and memorable experience. If your wanting to get away and experience the best Wyoming has to offer you'll love this place. The environment was breathtaking (Mountains, river, wildlife, horses, trails). Three of us went fly fishing using a recommended outfitter (from Brianna) and caught numerous trout & whitefish in the South Fork of the Shoshone river (10 minute walk from the house). We used the onsite outfitter (Rusty and Rhonda) to go for morning horseback rides on the private ranch. My daughter loved the opportunity to pet Rhonda's colt. We would spend evenings out on a blanket and lawn chairs watching shooting stars and satellites. Considering your 45 minutes from the nearest store visitors should stock up on their food supplies in Cody before heading out (which we did as recommended by Brianna). You'll find the amenities and style of the place are older but fit well with the rugged western historical like environment. The three homes on site are far enough apart that you wouldn't have any interaction with others unless you want to. The only disappointment was due to the high fire risk in the area we refrained from having an outdoor fire which would have been fun. We could have built one beside the river, but decided against it. We appreciated that this place was available to us for rent. We spent 4 nights of a 2 week vacation there (Vegas, Sedona, Lazy H Ranch & Yellowstone). For my teen kids the highlight of the whole vacation was the horseback riding and star gazing. Coming from the Washington DC Metro area this was a unique and special experience.

Everything looked just like it was pictured, spectacular! We went to Yellowstone and did lots of driving around but thought our view from the ranch was the most beautiful. Everything was super clean and up to date. We really felt like we got to experience living in the Wild West. It is a much different experience than staying in town or at a motel. The bed was super comfortable in the master bedroom. It is the perfect place to get away from it all. We were gone a lot of the time but would love to bring a larger group of people and spend more time there.

This is one of the best vacation areas I have ever been to. The ranch and the area were in a secluded area that was absolutely beautiful. The home was spotless clean and the ranch manager is easy to contact if you have questions or concerns. The kitchen was very nice and had everything you need except the food! The washer and dryer seemed newer and worked very well. Although Yellowstone takes a while to get to the scenery there and back is unbelievable. Would I go back to this ranch? Yes. Thank you Brianna for helping make our vacation very nice.

In 31 years of marriage this was by far the best vacation we have ever had! This is the cabin we have all dreamt of owning! You will fall in love with the house, surrounding mountains, and wild-life the moment you start your drive in from Cody. Brianna & family are top notch communicators. Response time was perfect and very informative. We had a minor family emergency and Briana & her father helped us immensely. Great advise on where we should go in Cody to receive help and then checked in with us to make sure that we were all ok! 5 out of 5 STAR RATING for the cabin, location, & hosts
