This cabin is in a unique mountainous, river setting. If you want to get away from city life (including internet and tv) then this is your place. There is nature all around. There are no destination resorts around this property but the beauty is stunning. Expect to see birds and wildlife all year round. The stars come out at night and there are no lights in the area to dim them. Nights here are special - cool and quiet in the summer. This is a place to relax after rafting, hiking, biking.

The space

This log cabin is on the bank of the famous whitewater river the South Fork of the Payette near Garden Valley Idaho. The cabin itself is located on an acre in a tiny subdivision of 7 acreages surrounded by the river and public land. Only an hour drive from Boise, the Garden Valley area is surrounded by the Boise National Forest and mountains in every direction.

The cabin is three stories with at least one queen bed bedroom and a full bath on each floor perfect for families or 3 couples. It has central heating (no air conditioning required) as well as a big fireplace and wood stove. The cabin is full of windows and light on every floor. There are neighbors but not too close. The river deck and main great room (including modern open kitchen) are the focus of the cabin and flow together into one big living space. Only the upstream neighbor has a clear view of the river deck from 100 feet. As a result, there are very few privacy curtains in the cabin.

The cabin was designed and still being built by the owners. At this point, there are only a few details that haven't been finished (primarily baseboard trim). There are huge logs and lots of wood in this cabin. It is a beautiful place in a great location, especially if you want to kayak, raft, mountain bike, dirt bike, ATV, jeep, or in the winter cross-country ski or snowmobile. There is a golf course, heated swimming pool, and a snow tubing hill in the area.

Guests will find that this property is perfect for rafters and kayakers to put in/take out of the river. Swirly Canyon (Class II - III) is the upstream run and downstream is the class 2 float through Garden Valley followed by the Staircase (Class IV) run. Whitewater runs, undeveloped hot springs, and beautiful little beaches abound on the South Fork. There are four wheel trails that start at the end of the driveway. Across the river there is Station Creek hiking/biking trail starting from the Garden Valley Ranger Station. This is a great location for exploring the area around Garden Valley and Lowman/Stanley.

The Garden Valley area is perfect if you want to get away and drop back in time. There are no destination resorts here. There is a quaint tiny town called Crouch with a few good restaurants, a golf course/hot water swimming pool country club called Terrace Lakes, and access to thousands of acres of public land. There are outfitters for horseback rides, rafting, and kayaking in the general area. Also, the driving on dirt roads and highways is absolutely gorgeous. The drive to Lowman and Stanley is incredible with camping and hot springs all over.

This is the owner's personal cabin and we love it, care for it, and want you to as well! As a result, there's no smoking at all, occupancy is capped at 8, and dogs are not allowed.

Guest access

Access to river bank for possible put-in or take-out on the South Fork Payette River.

Interaction with guests

This is a vacation property 1 hour from our home and therefore we don't interact as much as we would like to. We are happy to visit or advise guests.

Other things to note

This is a great place to be if you want to be next to nature and you don't want internet connectivity. There is Verizon cell service but you must go outside to get it.

Lovely home, great space, awesome outdoor access; definitely remote, but if that's what you are going for, you'll love it as much as we did!

The cabin is in a great location, with tons of near by activities. Being right on the river is amazing. Don't expect bedding or appliances from this century. There is plenty of room for lots of people, and the kitchen has plenty of dishes. No blender, so keep that in mind, but there are two waffle irons. The kitchen is stocked with some typical condiments. I was happy about that as we forgot syrup. There are also plenty of board games, books, and a VHS and DVD player with a few movies. No cell service at the cabin (not even Verizon) and no landline.

Response from Mark Francis:
Hi - one correction. There is Verizon cell service (outside the cabin) - which I detail in the cabin info. However, it is marginal (due to mountain location). If you want easy cell and internet connections - this is not the place. I'm sorry that wasn't clear enough. We will get a blender.

Wonderful secluded, quiet cabin located directly along the Payette river. The cabin has well-equipped kitchen, and a spacious Great Room. Definitely recommend if you are planning to stay in the area.

Great location for our Family Reunion nearby in Garden Valley. We loved the close proximity to the river. Each night we sat on the deck and enjoyed the scenery. Definitely an all seasons location. This place has a "Mountain Lodge/Family feel" to it and is well kept. I highly recommend.

Mark is a very helpful host and this cabin is in an amazing location. We were here with 3 kids and we had a blast because he even has some toys for the kids. The cabin is by the river and has a huge porch. The BBQ is also a huge bonus. The heating and amenities at the cabin are also great!

The house is very welcoming and cozy. The open living and dining room area are stunning with giant windows all around. Beautiful log cabin design, decorated the way you would think a log cabin would be. Plenty of towels, blankets, etc. and the beds were comfortable. Having wood for the fireplace was a nice touch. Thank you for your hospitality. We had a great time at the hot springs too.

I am a physics teacher and ex-computer engineer. I love to travel and explore. My favorite sport is backcountry skiing. I also enjoy biking (mountain and road), as well as hiking and camping. My wife and I have two great sons who are now in college. We love to go to hot springs and have homes in Boise, Garden Valley, and McCall.
