About this listing
Relax in our garden house in rural Shropshire. You'll be greeted by curious cats and chickens...and probably Allan and me. There's some fabulous walks, a lovely local and some pretty market towns all within easy reach. There's also plenty to read and lots of interesting CDs to play if you prefer.
Our fabulous wooden chalet is completely self contained...and you can come and go as you please.
The chalet comprises a bedroom, a shower room with a loo and a living room. There's also a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave and sink.
The bed is a double bed and our chalet is most comfortable with one or two guests.
There's a bed settee in the living room if you do need it.
We like reading and listening to music so you'll find lots of books, and a wall of CDs in the living room. We can guarantee there'll be music that you've never heard before there.
You are, of course, welcome to play the music and read the books but please don't be tempted to take any with you when you leave.
There's no TV, but there's WiFi.
Oh, and do look up...we hope you like our chandelier.
While you're staying please treat this as your home, we want you to enjoy your stay and be able to relax.
We will show you where everything you need is kept.
Please feel free to wander about the garden, it's very wild and slightly messy. There a picnic table outside if it ever gets warm enough to sit out here...
You'll find milk and butter in the fridge, there's tea, coffee and home made jam and marmalade as well. And a loaf of bread from the local baker as well.
Interaction with guests
We're happy to share our local knowledge with you...and delighted if you want to stop for a chat, but don't let us keep you from your own quest.
We have busy lives and we both work, but you are welcome to join us for a glass of wine, a cup of tea or a trip to the pub. We love meeting new people.
Come and bang on the door...
Other things to note
Please read this bit. You need to know what it's like here.
We live in a very rural area. We have cats and free range chickens and a noisy cockerel.
Our garden is wild. We like it like that. There are a couple of chicken houses, too.
Things are always in a state of slight chaos here so don't expect a manicured lawn - especially as we've broken the lawnmower - again.
We've had some building work done on our "garage" and there's still a stack of wood and bits waiting to be dealt with - so don't expect tidy!
There are no street lights, or pavements around here. And when it rains it gets muddy.
So, we need to be sure you're happy in rural surroundings...
Please bring your wellies.
We love animals and if you want to bring a dog that may be okay - but we have 5 cats and I don't want them to be chased. We also have belligerent chickens that wander at will. If you can keep your dog on a lead in the garden, that's fine. Please talk to us about it...
Our cats will insist they are allowed in the chalet. If you want to let them in, you do so at your own risk. They are very badly behaved and will steal your food, put muddy paw prints on your bed linen and clothes and cover the place in cat hair. If you leave the bathroom window open more than a tad Polly Garter will come to join you...
You have been warned...
Oh...and there's no hairdryer...
We like to keep our rules to the minimum.
The most important thing is you have a good stay. So, with that in mind...read this.
We are rural. In the country. We are 35 minutes drive from Shrewsbury. It is dark at night. There are no street lights. There is mud. If this fills you with horror, you probably need to look for somewhere else...
Our garden is wild. We have free range chickens and a cockerel so don't expect manicured lawns and tidy borders. Oh, and chickens do, what chickens do...so your shoes may never be the same again. A lasting legacy...
The drive is muddy and there a pile of wood to be sorted. This is not going to happen in the foreseeable future!
No, you can't walk to the pub. Just because we live in a village doesn't mean you can walk to the pub. Really...walking down a narrow country road at night is not safe...
Okay - in summer, on a light evening, you can walk to the pub. We call it "going over the top". This is fine. And it's beautiful.
But no. In winter, in the dark, you can NOT walk to the pub.
Check in time is flexible, but we will need to know.
If you break something, tell us. We won't be cross, but leaving a cracked glass or mug isn't on.
The CDs and books are there to be played or read, but please don't take them away with you.
There's a first aid kit in the living room. So if you break yourself, you might be able to fix it!
We have pets - cats and chickens. We love animals but we'd need to know if you want to bring one. Some dogs, for instance, might present a problem. However, we are on the Ride UK way - so you might want to bring a pony. Either way - let us know and we'll try to help.
Recycling is important to us but we know every county/country does it differently.
This is how it works in Shropshire.
Plastics/tins go together.
There are 2 bins under the sink. The plastic caddy is for food waste.
The pedal bin is for rubbish.
If you want to leave bottles and tins out I'll put them in the relevant boxes for you.
Please note...this is not a hotel. This is part of our house albeit self contained. If you want a cheap room and a chamber maid...this is not the place for you...
