About this listing
Tucked into the forest of Kachina Village, nestled in the ponderosa pines, and just minutes from the bustle of Flagstaff, you can retreat to your own quiet, very private bungalow, on the lower level of my home - a perfect getaway for couples or friends!
You'll find a unique and cozy bedroom loft, clean and comfortable linens and towels, chromecast and DVD player, full kitchen and bathroom, and a beautiful view from your bed. With few neighbors, you'll have privacy you can't get many places!
This new 400 sq. ft beautiful studio apartment is on the lower level of my home and is perfectly situated for exploring Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff and the surrounding area. There is a great deal of privacy, as the home backs to open, wooded forest. You'll have your own house-length outdoor deck to enjoy as well (for the warmer months!).
There is one queen bed in the sleeping loft, and a futon that can unfold into another bed. The apartment is ideal for 2, but can accommodate up to four. The futon is, well, it's a futon! The loft is unique, in that you can't stand up in it, so be prepared to do a bit of crouching/crawling! But it's certainly a fun space, and you'll love watching the sunrise from your bed.
The kitchen is fully equipped for 2-4 people, and even though it's on the lower level, the entire bungalow is bright and sunny, with many large windows! Yet, you'll never see another house out any of them....
The entire downstairs space is yours so feel free to roam out the back gate into the woods...There is also a playhouse and tire swing in the yard for younger visitors.
PARKING IS LIMITED in the winter months, so from November through March, guests must arrive in one vehicle, as I only have one extra parking space. Also, it is recommended during the winter when it's snowing that you have 4WD or tire chains, as you do have to drive up a hill to get to my home. The county is generally good about maintaining the roads, but it can get slick.
Interaction with guests
If I am in town and available, I will happy to offer any recommendations or advice to make your stay more enjoyable. I've lived in Flagstaff for 14 years so should be able to answer most questions! I generally will say hello and make sure guests get settled in, and then stay out of your way so that you have privacy.
Kachina Village lies just a few miles from Flagstaff, and is easy to access from I-17. It's a great community of mountain cabins and remodeled homes, and has great hiking trails, a park, and friendly residents. This is a more rural neighborhood though, with no street lights or many services other than a gas station and market nearby. You will have to go 5 miles into town to get to the nearest restaurants and grocery stores. (A quick trip!)
Other things to note
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS APARTMENT: Getting to the bungalow requires walking down approximately 35 stairs. Which also means walking back up the stairs each trip! So if stairs are a challenge, this probably isn't the best place for you (sorry).
Also, I mention this in the photos and elsewhere, but want guests to know that there are a few stairs up to the sleeping nook, which you also cannot stand up in. You'll be crouching/crawling ...you can comfortably sit up in the bed though, and it's pretty darn cozy :) Other noteworthy things: Kachina Village doesn't have streetlights, is very quiet and rural.
I do have neighbors, and also am generally in bed at a decent time, so I ask guests to honor quiet hours from 10 pm to 8 am.
I LOVE all animals, and have pets of my own, but because this is a brand new space, I am unable to accommodate pets at this time. If you have an extremely compelling circumstance, please ask, and I'll consider.
Please no smoking on the premises.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
I came to Flagstaff 14 years ago on my way to a Grand Canyon river trip and have called Flagstaff home ever since! I fell in love with the Colorado Plateau and love hiking, biking, boating, skiing and exploring its magical landscapes with my dog Frida. In fact, I decided on a career in conservation and work every day to protect this special place. I'd be more than happy to help you plan your adventure while visiting Flagstaff and the surrounding area!
