About this listing
70ft of screen porch with 10ft ceilings - perfect for watching sunsets and hummingbirds!
Hal and Page met on the lake as teenagers and now live here year-round. Their parents were some of the first on Lake Burton and now they're the first Airbnb.
To understand the heart and warmth that emanates from the Rhoad's house tucked away in Blackberry Cove, you must understand its history. The depth of the love which resides here has roots in the earliest days of the lake. Hal's father was one of the first handful to build a small summer cabin on the edge of the water, hanging newspaper in the trees to indicate where the roads would be cut, and raising his kids with a deep reverence for hard work and a love of lake life in the smokey mountains.
Page's father spent his early days much the same way, driving up from Atlanta and canoeing materials across the lake to build a fishing cabin, and eventually bringing his family up to the mountains for several weeks each year to soak up the slow-paced life in the rolling foothills of the Appalachians.
As fate would have it, Hal and Page eventually met, as teenagers, on the lake.
They raised 4 children in Atlanta, returning to the lake each summer as a family, and eventually moving there full-time when their kids were grown.
Their cabin, rebuilt from the ground up in 2011, is truly an ideal space to spend your days enjoying the slow pace of lake life.
The kitchen against the back of the house is open to the main family room, bracketed by a large stone fireplace and a set of well-appointed bedrooms just off the dining area, past the kitchen table. There is a full bathroom just opposite the fireplace, off the kitchen, and a full master suite on the other side of the house, that includes the master bedroom, bathroom, and closet. There is a mudroom with a washer and dryer.
And like any self-respecting lake house, it really only begins when you cross the threshold of the door facing the lake. The screen porch with 10ft ceilings extends the full length of 2 sides of the house, looping around the corner to reveal a sleeping porch with 2 additional sets of bunk beds, indoor corn hole, a hammock, and spillover seating for large meals better enjoyed around a picnic table. All of this in the shade of local mountain laurel and dogwood trees, and leading out to a large stone patio with a grill, a fire pit, and ample seating for 10+ made up of "gliders" (short swing chair and love seat) and low slung adirondack chairs.
Guests have full access to the property with the exception of the master bath closet, home office, and main hall closet. Bath towels are hanging in the guest bedrooms and master bath. We have beach towels available.
Convenient, easy-access parking for multiple vehicles including plenty of room for a jet ski or boat trailer.

Interaction with guests
While Lake Burton is a well renowned treasure in its own right, Blackberry Cove very well may be the unexpected gem that will keep you returning to her, when revisiting the memories of your get-away.
It's important to emphasize that this property is managed by Kingfisher Concierge, which brings many unique insights and advantages to guests.
It just happens that Hal and Page's son Cannon Rhoad is the president and founder of Kingfisher Concierge & Property Management, Lake Burton's turn-key partner for property owners; and his love for serving homeowners and guests and defending the way of life on Lake Burton was nurtured beneath this very roof, where he spent every summer of his life.
Having a dedicated concierge during your stay means that you're only a phone call away from a friendly, helpful human resource. It means that you'll be welcomed with mints on your pillows and provided with a list of local attractions and suggestions to get the most out of your get-away. Kingfisher Concierge means peace of mind and represents the promise of relaxation embodied by the north Georgia mountains themselves.
