We invite you to enjoy beautiful Waiulililani, an organically inspired handcrafted, bamboo home build originally in Vietnam and reassembled in Kukuihaele, a picturesque plantation era village just minutes from the majestic Waipio Valley lookout.

The space

The name, Waiulililani, means heavenly waters of the ulili bird, a reference to the tranquil stream running by the house which the ulili birds were known to drink from. The name also refers to the heavenly tranquility and beauty that surround the house.

Waiulililani is an exotic Polynesian inspired home completed in 2014. It sits elevated in a jungle canopy of jackfruit, avocado, macadamia nut, kukui nut, and banana tress next to the jubilant Waiulili Stream. This is one of only 3 streams in the United States that terminates in a waterfall into the ocean. The property also boasts coffee, coconut, mountain apple, pineapple, citrus, and other beautiful tropical flora.

The luxurious two story, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home showcases the efforts of skilled craftsmen working in the unique medium of bamboo throughout exposed interior framing and rafters, bamboo cabinets and doors. Both floors expand into spacious covered lanais facing stream and sea with vistas even to the cliffs of Waipio. A modern kitchen graces the bottom floor. The house is full of amenities including an air jet bathtub overlooking Waiulili Stream. An outdoor shower is the icing on the cake.

Guest access

Guests have full use of the house and all amenities including washer and dryer, iron, blow dryer, WiFi, cable television, phone with unlimited US long distance calling, microwave, dishwasher, and all the dishes and cooking utensils needed.

Great place. Nice house. Nice rooms. Extra equipped kitchen. I feel sorry we stayed just two nights. - Gabriel

We were very lucky to stay at Waiulililani at Waipio Valley for a few days during our trip on Big Island. The house is amazing, we felt at home right away. The rooms are big, the beds are really comfy and the restrooms are luxurious. - Stephanie

Very beautiful house. Voted our vacation favorite by our group. Just down the street from the Waipio Valley overlook. - William

A perfect honeymoon! This home is one of a kind and the sound of the stream running next to the house created a truly romantic experience. It feels like your living in the trees as well because the house is surrounded by the jungle canopy. The house was immaculate and the spa tub was a treat! The kitchen was a dream with top of the line appliances and kitchenware. The house was much more spacious than we expected and very accommodating host, there was even a platter of delicious fruits waiting for us when we arrived! - Viliami

We had a wonderful stay! The house is perfect, spotless, and truly a unique experience. Walking distance to Waipio, one of the best spots on the island. Wish we could stay longer but will certainly be back! - Nicole

If you are looking for heaven on earth, this is the place to go! All kinds of fruit in the garden and a very big lanaii to relax makes this place very unique. Check-in and check-out was easy. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this paradise!

We truly appreciated this opportunity to live in our dream home in our dream neighborhood on Big Island! Everything about the accommodations was perfect from the architecture , well appointed interiors to the perfectly stocked kitchen. A beautiful basket of fruit was there to meet us upon our arrival. We arrived early to drop our things before heading down into waipio valley and it wasn't too much of a problem . Hope to go back next year !

This is such a neat house! It looks just like the photos, and was spotless inside. The kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfy, and bedrooms and baths spacious. Nice fruit trees on the property, and a beautiful jungle view with the creek below on one side of the house. The frogs were quite loud at night, but didn't keep us awake. We really enjoyed our time here, and wish we could have stayed longer.

This home is luxurious and beautiful. Every little amenity made it a great home away from home. The lanais were the perfect place to hang out at the house. Loved the sound of the water and the coquilles singing us to sleep at night.

This is an absolutely lovely and unique place to stay. Very convenient to Waipi'o Valley and Honoka'a. Beds were comfortable; kitchen was great for cooking. Living room furniture only accommodates 4 but outdoor lanai furniture is comfy and great for enjoying the outdoors. Check-in was clear and easy. Sound of the nearby stream is refreshing. Host allowed a later check-out since no one was arriving the same day which was delightful. We were surprised by the beautiful flowers and generous fruit waiting for us! 5 Star!

This house is far away from everything, but walking distance from the Waipi'o Valley (Valleynof the Kings). Every detail of the house is beautiful, it is a pleasure to spend time in it. Surrounded by trees and a creek with frogs and birds, an all-around balcony in each floor, and a fully equipped kitchen. We loved staying in a bamboo house!

This place is special, and pictures really can't do it justice. The lanai is amazing, you feel like you're sitting in the tree tops in an exotic forest. Coming from Canada I was amazed you could sit out there at night with lights on and not be bothered by bugs. The interior of the house is unlike anything I've ever seen. Much of the bamboo structure is exposed so you can see how the house was put together. I loved being able to see all these details. The house is very cleverly situated to provide privacy even though there are neighbors nearby. Honestly I cannot say enough good things about this place, it is without doubt the best house I have ever stayed in. There are only a couple of reasons I can think of not to stay here. First, if you need cell coverage and not just wifi then this is not the place for you. Second, if you need silence to sleep at night then the sound of wildlife in the forest is going to keep you awake. I found it incredibly soothing and it helped me to sleep but those needing silence will have a tough time. Belinda was a joy to deal with, extremely responsive to any questions I had, and the flower arrangement she placed in the kitchen for our arrival was spectacular. I hope to return to the Big Island one day just so that I can stay here again.
