About this listing

This is an apartment for the discerning traveller who likes something a bit different from the run of the mill accommodation. The apartment as well as being well appointed has lots of interesting nik-naks dotted about. There are books to read DVD's to play, you can even look out of the large windows and watch the world go by, all this and knowing you can come and go as you please.

The space

Our beautifully appointed apartment is above Picture House Portraits photo studio in the centre of Kirkby Stephen in the lovely Eden Valley. We have a large open space with fitted kitchen and dining area. The bathroom has a luxury double walk-in shower, shaver point, basin and toilet. The attractive bedroom includes twin-beds, wardrobe, dresser etc. This is a charming space in a central location near to pubs and restaurants and is an ideal location for walking, visiting, historical sites etc. We are the halfway point on the coast to coast walk and Kirkby Stephen offers an ideal resting place. Pet friendly by arrangement. This is a super place for railway enthusiasts, we are on the Settle to Carlisle line and Kirkby Stephen East station is open to the public and includes a small museum.

Guest access

Access to the apartment is via the historic courtyard to the rear of the shop, through a white door and up a single flight of stairs to the first floor and door to the apartment.

We will be on hand if the need arises

Other things to note

Utterly charming, what a find! This beautifully appointed apartment is ideally located in the heart of the Eden valley. Kirkby Stephen has a train station, this opens up a wealth of idyllic tourist destinations. The apartment is well equipped, we wanted for nothing. More than that you couldn't wish for better hosts. You made our hearts smile.

Penny. What's there to meet us and show us around. Offered advice on places to eat . And made us feel welcome. Could come and go as we pleased with out own keys.

Paul and Penny clearly have a gift for hosting- every detail addressed with style and comfort in mind- from very cosy beds, to an excellent shower, to welcome essentials on arrival, to a well-equipped kitchen. Its luxurious and inviting. The apartment is charming, a feast for the eyes as its filled with memorabilia and antiques. Location is great and close to local shops as well as nearby treasures in the Dales. Our Labradoodle Benji was very happy here and so were we!

My sister and I really enjoyed our stay here. Penny and Paul were extremely welcoming - and their apartment is a joy to stay in. The shop below used to be a vintage collectors shop - and there is a definite connection! The flat is decorated with all sorts of interesting and quirky items. Above all though, it is very comfortable, very clean, and equipped with almost everything you could possibly wish for - and the beds were nicely comfortable (I slept like a log). Kirkby Stephen was a lovely place to stay for a few days - we really enjoyed some beautiful and energetic walks - both from the door and from some of the nearby villages - there are hundreds of well marked trails to pick from. The town itself is definitely worth exploring. The shops are not your regular chain stores, and we enjoyed an unexpected and unplanned little shopping spree. Thank you for your hospitality, Penny and Paul! (PS we really liked your home made bread and all the other goodies!)

Paul and Penny were fantastic hosts and the apartment was absolutely perfect for our needs. Warm; spaceous; well equipped; clean and bright. We really didn't want to have to leave so soon but hopefully we'll be back. Sadly I didn't get to see much of Kirkby Stephen because of work commitments, but my partner Jamie had plenty to occupy him when I left him carless for a day. From what I did see of it, it's a charming market town and everyone we met was extremely friendly. We had hoped to eat out on the Saturday evening but there wasn't a great deal on offer for protein-loving vegetarians, however with the Coop on the doorstep, and the well appointed kitchen, we had a lovely meal in the comfort of the apartment instead. I would highly recommend this lovely place.

Had a wonderful stay with my mum. The apartment was cosy and welcoming. We really liked the vintage decor. Despite being on the main street it was very quiet. Penny and Paul were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. It's an ideal location for exploring the local area and although my mum isn't able to go hiking there are great walks close by and it is on the coast to coast route so would make an ideal stopover. Would definitely consider staying there again and would recommend to anyone wanting a place to stay
