Description

The space

You will love the convenience and modern comforts of the condo. The condo has six units. There is very little noise and the neighbors are courteous, friendly professional people. The interior is modern and elegant yet comfortable. You have access to the kitchen and state-of-the art appliances, the laundry room which is conveniently tucked away in a large closet next to the kitchen, and to the heat and air controls. You can eat meals and relax in the living room area, watch TV or Netflix on the mounted screen, or in your private bedroom where you have your own private 26" screen cable TV. You have free access to high-speed internet and the code is posted in your bedroom.
When I am home, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have and to assist you in every way possible to make your stay in DC, inside and outside of the home, as pleasant as possible. The neighborhood and the city is wonderful. I have professional ties in the world of international journalism and music so I can be helpful with tips on entertainment as well.
I speak fluent French in addition to my native English and have great experience traveling internationally. I understand what it's like to travel on business and for pleasure so you will find that the space I've created for you fits your needs perfectly.

Guest access

You will have access to the front entrance door and the front interior door which is on the second floor #201. Once inside the apartment you have access to your bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom. You can also enjoy the living room and kitchen space. For short term guests feel free to use the microwave, toaster, refrigerator, tea and coffee pot and dishes. In some cases you may enjoy full use of the kitchen, but that will have to be arranged between us on a case-to-case basis.

Interaction with guests

If I'm not at home and you need me, you can text me or call at any time on my mobile number and I'll get back to you within the hour. I work on Capitol Hill which is only a 3 metro-stop commute so in case of emergency I can arrive home quickly.
I am an outgoing and open person so interacting with guests is easy and fun for me. I like to watch the news on TV a little bit before and after work when I'm having breakfast/dinner, and sometimes I watch my favorite Netflix shows after work so you can usually catch me then in the kitchen/living room for chatting or information or news. I respect privacy too, and understand when work mode takes priority, so whatever style you prefer during your stay, I am fine with. I follow a routine 40-hour work week schedule and stay busy on weekends as well so you will sometimes have the place to yourselves. Basically my interaction with guests is professional yet relaxed.
When I travel on occasion, you might have the place to yourselves or share it with another Airbnb guest occupying my master bedroom suite. I will notify you if that situation arises. For long-term trips (more than 2-3 days) someone reliable and friendly will manage the house.

The neighbourhood

The neighborhood is in the southeast section of Capitol Hill. The Hill East neighborhood is very eclectic. We have a large group of long-term residents, many of whom are working and middle class African Americans. We also have many newish arrivals, professionals like me who are employed by the federal government, Congress or nonprofit organizations. The neighborhood is transforming every day. New condos and row houses popping up, old ones getting renovated. It is very exciting. Like most big city neighborhoods that are in the middle stages of change, its also important to stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
4 blocks away on K street is my favorite gym. Walk-ins are welcome. Next to the metro which is 2 1/2 blocks away is a Harris Teeter, a Subway, an AT&T store, and a Wells Fargo automated teller. Walking down Pennsylvania bewteen 14th and 15th streets (still about 2 1/2 blocks from my house) you'll find a pizza joint, a Chinese restaurant, a tattoo parlor, two bars Trusty's and Wisdom (I love both but if you want to eat, I suggest Trusty's), a wine and liquor store, and other spots to explore. The next metro stop over is Eastern Market which is bustling on the weekends due to the fun outdoor market, but also every night because of its awesome strip of great restaurants and shops.

Getting around

It's so easy. Walking is good for shopping for your day-to-day necessities, local spots, and to get to the metro. The Potomac Ave metro is awesome to get anywhere in the city and it is a very short commute. One stop to Eastern Market, two stops to Capitol South (Congress, the Capitol, and Library of Congress), three stops to Federal Center where the east end of the National Mall starts. You can get off there and walk the Mall and visit the Smithsonian museums, or go a few more stops to and get out at any one to start your sight seeing tour of the Monuments and White house mid-way or at the other end of the Mall. If you drive, it's easy to get to my place because its just off the highway. The off-street parking is free for 2-hours a day Monday-Friday from 7:00am-8:30pm. It is free on weekends and there is always a space right by the front entrance.

Other things to note

Cheerio really enjoys occupying all of the rooms! The two bedrooms on each end of the condo are the sole sources of natural light too as the kitchen/living room has no windows. So I prefer that you leave your door open a crack when you leave, if possible, so that Cheerio has access to the windows. If not, no big deal either. I leave that final decision up to you.
Also please note that there is a deadbolt on your door. The key is in the little silver dish on the desk in your bedroom. Feel free to lock it if need be. Do not however lock the door handle to your room and pull it shut behind you. That will cause all kinds of trouble since there is no key to unlock that. An extra set of keys to the back door are also in that silver dish in case of an emergency and you have to exit out the back door. That door is located at the other end of the apartment by my bedroom suite. It leads outside to the parking area and you can open the automatic garage door manually to access the street (an alley between L and K streets).
I have a guest book with information about the city and the house. Take a look at it as you might find it very useful. I have an informal comment notepad in there too which is a good place for you to leave me comments that you may not want to put in the on-line review.

Heather was a great hostess! She was very organized, contacted us the morning of our check-in and let us know our room was ready early and gave me and my wife all the information we needed. The place was immaculately clean from top to bottom. The amenities were nice and felt premium. Her cat was very friendly and took a hint when we wanted to be left alone. The location was awesome with a park and trails nearby for running. It was close to the train station and there were some nice restaurants and shops about 1/2 mile away. Overall, we loved the place and Heather made us feel right at home. We would definitely stay here again!

Heather is awesome! My fiance and I planned a trip to DC to visit the cherry blossoms, and this was the perfect place to stay. The bedroom was spacious and well furnished, and the apartment had everything we could need. It was very walkable to nearby eating, and about a 20 minute walk to the hill. Heather and her cat Cheerio are fantastic hosts; we didn't interact a ton with her, as we were out sightseeing so much, but she gave us really good recommendations and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed to make the most out of our trip. Very warm, welcoming, lovely host. Would definitely love to stay with her again!

Heather was very communicative during the whole process. I was able to check in easily (once I found the place) and was greeted at the door by Cheerio her sweet cat. The only issue I had was that the pillows were feather pillows and they don't offer any support, so I didn't sleep well.

This place was amazing! It's close to many restaurants and even walking distance to the Capitol. Heather is an amazing host as well. She had bread ready for me every morning and was always available if I had questions. Thanks again!!

Heather User ProfileHeather is a superhost.

I am a professional woman and international public figure in the world of music radio and TV journalism. I speak French and one African language, I sing jazz, and love to travel. I love what I do and I exercise and perform often so am usually happy. I respect privacy but also embrace community. Oh - and I love horses, surfing, and my cat Cheerio. I cannot live without food, water, and love. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer so I know how to be happy with very little material things.
As your host, I will be helpful, courteous, and honest. I will provide you with a clean and elegant space and will gladly offer you help when you want it and respectfully leave you to your own devices if that is what you prefer. You will be able to count on me at all times.
When I travel, I like to be in a clean, neat, and beautiful place. I like to set everything up the way I want in my bathroom and bedroom. My place allows you to the same, nice conditions.
I don't have a life motto. I have a job that I love and I live in one of the best cities in the world. Life is good. Work hard. Do good.
