Coco is so helpful! His recommendations were spot on. The road to the apartment is really bumpy, ensuring you have a 4x4 is a good idea!

This is a rustic surfer hideaway! A/C worked great. Host Coco was friendly and easy to get a hold of. Place was exactly as described.

Great experience. Coco was a great host. Amazing beach a short ride away. Very quiet, secluded and off the beaten path. Away from tourists it gave us a taste for the real Pura Vida. Great neighbors. Not good if traveling with someone with a physical disability such as we were or small children but an amazing place to go with a bike or a motorcycle and travel the back roads.

Cocos place is a great place if you want to stay off the beaten path. The beaches are quiet and nice. The house is clean and exactly as described. The only thing we would suggest is your own transportation as there was no public transportation. Coco was great, he had a ride for us at the airport and took us to a beach that was a too far to walk to.

This is the perfect spot for anyone that wants to get off the typical tourist path in Costa Rica. The house is small but clean and comfortable and perfect for a couple. It's a very short walk to a beautiful beach strewn with volcanic rock and you'll be delighted to notice you're in a "locals only" neighborhood. Coco is awesome, super friendly and speaks great English. I locked us out pretty late one night while we were hanging out on the porch and had no problem knocking on Coco's door who swiftly came to the rescue, with a spatula. Be sure to say hi to Javier, he lives next door to the house and is a super charming surf instructor who helped us out with a ride to the bus stop very early our morning of departure. Just a note; there is no public bus traveling to this location. We had to take one to Tamarindo and then pay about $30 to taxi the rest of the way. Totally worth it to be in such a chill, off the beaten path, locals spot.

Coco was super helpful with travel tips, flexible & communicative- although we couldn't get on the wifi network when we arrived so had to use wifi at businesses' when we could. Playa Negra is indeed a gem, the home has all your basics but as others said bring toiletries. Like all the places we stayed in CR, be noted that wildlife noises at night is a normal occurrence so if you are a light sleeper like myself, bring something to help silence. Fell in love with all the neighborhood puppies & the beautiful stroll to the Peace Retreat for yoga in the morning! Took surfing lessons by Coco's recommendation and it was great. It was a very secure airbnb (multiple locks, etc).

Host Coco amazing. Our stay was extremely important for information gathering as it was our first time to Costa Rica. We feel blessed that we found this gem of a place. Playa Negra is all Costa Rica. The restaurants in town (only 5min walk) were perfect. Cafe Playa Negra (manager Daniel) was a great surf themed restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Jalapeño a great lunch and breakfast. Ventana (hosted by Jen) wonderful breakfast and lunch. About a 7min drive out to Pico's (hosted by Joel) for dinner. The beach is a 4 min drive from coco's or 15 min ish walk. There is Playa Negra Hotel and parking is $2 USA or 1000 colones a day. There are two grocery markets in town very reasonable for the convenience, however, if you go to Santa Cruz's market it can save you some funds if you're staying for a long time, about a 25 min drive. Coco's home had what we needed for our 5 day stay from Jan. 15-20 2017. Weather was amazing. We also went to Lola's about a 15 min drive and it was also a great beach. Both beaches had everything. Surf, food, quite, clean and beach bottom for swimming. There are rocks but lots of beach bottom areas to swim aswell. Great home for the price and if we needed anything. ......Coco got it for us. We didn't need much. We love it here!
