The room and the apartment are fine, specially considering the price. Gloria and Brian were kind. The room was really clean all the time, the private bathroom is good and the air conditioning works well. The location is really good, next to Capitolio. 1- The problem with the water was really bad (three weeks with no water...). 2- Also Gloria told me she could not prepare breakfast for me (contrary to what is said in the airbnb description). 3- It's a noisy room!

Response from Brian:
Hi Oriol, It's true the water issue was bad. I have just finished replacing all of the plumbing in the 3 bathrooms. There was a lot of construction going on the the street, installing new water pipes and fiberoptics, . The problem Gloria had was with her health and is better now. Your complaints are valid and we have and are addressing them. Once again, thank you for being such a patient and pleasant guest, All the best, Brian

This place is perfect if you want to roam around old Havana; very central location. The street the house is on is pretty lively even late at night. It's very safe to walk around. The house is 1-2 blocks from El parque central which is where all the hotels and cabs are (and tourism agencies if you want to explore outside Havana). 1-2 blocks in the other direction there is a wifi park. All the must see places in old Havana are pretty much walking distance. FYI The rooms are actually located on a second floor of a colonial house so there's about 2-3 long staircases to go up. the room is very basic- no windows, lamp, dresser, shower, and AC. The lady that takes care of the house is very sweet. Good choice if you don't need anything fancy or extra and want to be close to the action.

This place is in a great location, however I wouldn't recommend it. There is wifi down the street at a price, and breakfast also comes at a price. The water pressure is nonexistent, and there is literally just a trickle of water coming out of the shower head. On top of this, if you tried using the hot water switch, the system heating the water would slightly electrocute you. The bed sinks in to one spot (because a beam underneath is broken) and is very uncomfortable. I had an achy back each day I woke up. The air conditioner is broken and set to the same setting so you cannot adjust it. The floors are a bit dirty and I was uncomfortable walking around the room without socks. Brian was not actually there, however a woman named Gloria was there along with her family. She seems to be the true host of this casa, however note that she doesn't speak any English. The neighbors will ask you to give them things if you brush by them in the building. There is no window in the room, and the light is poor so we felt very isolated. We loved being able to walk to places we wanted to see but it wasn't worth it for us to stay here.

Response from Brian:
Hi Shelby, I read your review and have taken everything issue you listed seriously. The dust issue will and is improving now, they are digging up the streets and breaking concrete in order to install new gas and water. The work is very near complete our street anyway. The water issue has been addressed and the shower has more pressure and the water heater tested and found to be operating safely. Bed frame is now fixed, thanks for pointing that out. Gloria is my mother and is better at the job of looking after people than I am. It is true she doesn't speak English, but my brother frank does and he was around, I don't know what to say about that, we speak Spanish here and you did say you didn't want to be a "tourist". Regarding breakfast, I am sorry, but we can't afford to include breakfast for 2 for $30 per night, its not feasible with all of the costs and maintenance involved . It's true some of the neighbours may ask for a toothbrush or shampoo, we ask them not to, but as you can see Shelby, there is poverty here, that is the reality and it will happen anywhere here in cuba. Airconditioner is fixed. I thank you again for your review it has helped focus our attention on what was lacking. All the best, Brian

The place is great a bigger room that I was expecting and the location is great walking distant to most important points. I have some issues with the shower, the hot water didn't work most of time and very low water flow (he did mention to me the water flow issues prior booking ) No big deal, Gloria and Fran were very polite and friendly.

We enjoyed our stay at Brians. The location was perfect for us, being a short walk to the Old City and City Center. Taxis and restaurants were readily available near Parque Central, a 4 minute walk. Our room was basic but clean, the bed was comfortable and our room had everything we needed. We did not use the kitchen but had access to the living area which gave us a view of the bustling street. There was some construction on the street but it made me feel positive because things were being improved and it added to the street scene. The family members we met,Brians Mother and Brother were helpful and just lovely people, as were all of the Cuban people we interacted with. We found nightly entertainment, Flamenco one night, Cuban Music another, in the basement of the Gran Teatro, a building of amazing architecture overlooking Parque Central. Every time we walked out the door we were greeted by a wonderful adventure. We could have wandered the streets of Old Havana for weeks and always seen something wonderful each step of the way. Enjoy, a wonderful experience awaits you.

The location is great. It's in the middle of a very local street, but turn the corner and it's tourist central. Great bakery on the corner too. Brian was not there, and our host didn't speak English, so communication was a little off. She was very sweet though. We never woke up early enough for breakfast so I'm not sure if that's an option or not. We kind of kept to ourselves, but any time there was a problem she was very kind and helpful. She cleaned our place once for the 7 days we were there, and she did a fantastic job. Way more than expected! I wish that the communication was a little better from Brian prior to arrival, so we would have known what to expect, especially with checking in and checking out (the place would be hard to find on your (URL HIDDEN) try and figure that out before you leave). Southwest dropped us off at a different terminal and the taxi driver Brian sent was not there, so we had to take a different taxi and somehow found the place. It's a great place to stay. Good price, felt safe, and the host was very sweet, I think she is Brian's mother. Could be wrong?
