Ma'Khaya Guest House is a nice and place for a stay in Johannesburg. The rooms are fine and they have a small pool to cool down after a warm day. They arrange interesting guided trips to Soweto.

Please read the descriptions at the bottom of the pictures - there are rooms of varying quality. The one you get for R599 is the very entry level one, not at all on the same level as the more expensive/recently renovated once on the pictures. Staff are very nice and helpful, overall you get what you see - just make sure you are looking at the right picture.

We had a great stay at Ma'Khaya. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The rain shower was a definite highlight, and the beds were extremely comfy. There is parking included, which is very important in Joburg. The location was great- just a few blocks from the bars and restaurants in Melville.

This was a funky little place. The unit we stayed in seemed a bit in need of maintenance/upkeep and had a funky smell. The other units we saw seemed like they had been updated and were absolutely lovely, so it may be that they are mid-stream for updates etc. Other than that, the stay was great. The grounds are lovely, the staff was super nice, the breakfast that was included was wonderful and the location was great. I would happily stay here again, if I could get one of the updated/nicer units.

I enjoyed my stay at Makhaya Guest House although my time in Joburg was short. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable with basic amenities. Makhaya was situated in a decent neighborhood with nearby shops and restaurants which allowed me to feel comfortable walking around as a solo female traveler. I would recommend Makhaya to friends and family.
