The space

Cinema Leonardo is named after the boy who dreamt of having a place in Baguio City, away from the noise, heat, and stress of Manila. It's not a theater--it just so happens we're film people, and we like the way Cinema Leonardo rolls on the tongue.

The house is as Leonardo was: simple. With five rooms and a sprawling garden to move about, it is an ideal venue for spending some quality and quiet time with the family.

The house, with its five bedrooms, can sleep 16. Room distribution is as follows:

Room A [first floor] – 4 pax on 3 beds; with own T&B
Room B [1st floor] – 6 pax on 3 beds; with own T&B
Room C [1st floor] – 2 pax on 1 bed; with own T&B
Room D [2nd floor] – 2 pax on 1 bed (with the option of accommodating an extra person in the top bunk)
Room E [ 2nd floor] – 2 pax on 1 bed (with the option of accommodating an extra person in the top bunk)

We charge P300 per guest PER night, whether child or adult, in excess of 16; we provide single-person mattresses for each.

Cinema Leonardo is for those who have visited much of the tourist spots of the city and are up to just stayinf in one place to catch up on reading or lengthy conversations over mugs of hot coffee. It's for those who shirk at the cramped confines of the crowded downtown area, and value space to move about. If there is one thing you can bet we have that other houses do not, it's SPACE---2,000 square meters of it!

Guest access

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in: 2pm. Check-out: 12nn. We're almost always booked to the seams so we request that check-out time be kept religiously, as we need the two-hour window to change linens, etc..

2. What if we exceed 16 guests?

There is a P300 per additional head per night, in excess of 16, regardless of whether adult or child.

3. Why charge for kids?

Because we'll need to provide each child with bed space. Our single-person beds can accommodate only one person. Squeezing in a child is impossible unless said child is an infant. An infant is the only exception to the per-head-in-excess-of-16 fee, said infant being less than a year old. Kids ages 1 to 3 are toddlers.

To be honest, it is more challenging for us to host children than adults. Children destroy furniture, pull out plants, break things, wreck the swing, and the worst of all possible horrors for somebody who just invested on quality six and eight-inch mattresses: pee on the bed, thus invalidating the 10-year-warranty each mattress comes with. In general, a child on vacation is a mini-tornado. We've even had our walls crayoned once.

4. What's the maximum number that you can accommodate?

We once accommodated a clan of 45, but since guests' comfort levels vary, we try to keep the maximum to 25. If you exceed that, you may nevertheless still request hosting---we'll let you know if we can or can't.

5. Do we have to bring our own cooking equipment and utensils?

No need. The house has:
- utensils and dinnerware
- ladles, pots, and pans
- rice cooker, oven toaster, microwave, electric kettle, gas stove
- hot and cold water dispenser

If you plan to do Iron Chef-like or fiesta-diverse cooking, however, it's best to bring your own equipment/utensils. What we have allows for basic cooking, no-frills meals that you'd make while camping.

6. Do you provide drinking water?

Yes. We provide one 5-liter bottle of drinking water per day of stay. Don't worry about using the tap water for cooking. It's safe to. We do it ourselves.

7. Do you have Internet?

Yes, we do. It isn't anything to write home about, though, so if you're after speed, it's best to use your own data. The wifi is strongest in the third room.

8. How about TV/ cable?

Yes, we do have TV/ cable. We also have a small book library.

9. What about beddings and toiletries?

We provide the beddings, pillows, blankets. NO towels or small packets of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.

10. So where can we buy those stuff in case we forgot to bring?

a. You will be passing grocery and small stores to get to the house; you can buy some there, too.
b. You may request the caretaker to make a quick shopping run for you.

11. Why don't you accept pets anymore like you used to?

My child and I have asthma. In the past, we accept guests with pets but ask them to keep their pets out of the bedrooms and off the couch and dining room chairs. This didn't prove possible for most so we opted to change the rule on pets altogether.

12. I noticed you cancelled some bookings....

Two times out of three, this is over a pet that we cannot reach an agreement on (over areas to keep off-limits). Occasionally, it's because of kids that would-be guests insist we accommodate for free. We avoid cancellations as much as we can. Airbnb charges us Php2,250 per cancellation and bans us from accepting bookings here on those dates here.

13. Is there space for kids to play and run around in?

The place is huge! You’ll have all 2,000 square meters to yourself. We have a sprawling garden, swing, wishing well, outdoor grill, cottage for dining/hanging out, and a basketball court. Did we mention we also have a fireplace? Most houses in Baguio have this. A real indoor fireplace, the kind you can sit in front of on chilly nights. We rarely use it ourselves, but you may ask the caretaker to run out and buy firewood for your group for the fireplace or for building a bonfire with. (Not sure of the going rate for firewood, though--Ling can tell you this; just ask before your arrival.) Many of our guests use the designated bonfire spot and hang outdoors at night. Just ask Ling for a mat or two to sit on, if you need 'em.

Interaction with guests

Ling stays in an outhouse, should you need her for anything. She will be in the gated compound for most of your stay in the house, except for early mornings when she has to send off her child to school. It also pays to let her know upon your arrival what info or assistance you'll need from her for the day/days to come.

The neighbourhood

According to G Maps, this is our distance to many of Baguio's well-known destinations:

to Camp John Hay: 24 minutes

to SM Baguio: 18 minutes

to Wright Park: 28 minutes

to Burnham Park: 16 minutes

to Mines View: 27 minutes

to Bencab Museum: 14 minutes

to Lourdes Grotto: 11 minutes

to Philippine Military Academy: 40 minutes

to Tam-awan Village: 15 minutes

to The Mansion: 24 minutes

to Baguio Cathedral: 17 minutes

Getting around

Don't book our place if you're not traveling in your own vehicle. As you are a large group, it would be very difficult to hail cabs for you in one go, from the house.

Other things to note

We're on Waze and Go.ogle Maps, if you want to check out proximity to Session Road and other places. Just type Cinema Leonardo. My honest take: if you plan to hang out in Session Road or thereabouts, don't stay at our place. Baguio traffic sometimes gets really horrendous. I would suggest checking out our location on G Maps first, and then see how that fits your plans/schedule.

House Rules
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 2PM
Check out by 12PM (noon)

Just treat our house as you would treat your own home! The few things we'd like you not to do in the house:

- The rate covers only 16pax. We charge Php300 per head per night for every guest in excess of 16, whether adult or child.
- Smoke. Please don't smoke inside the house.
- Have noisy parties. The village might go after you with a pitchfork. We're only partly kidding--we have held somewhat noisy parties ourselves, and we've yet to exceed their noise level tolerance.
- Break stuff. Many things in the house is are at least 30 years old--they will be very hard to replace.
- Leave the water running when not in use. We have our own water pump, we enjoy uninterrupted water supply every day. But we pay dearly for every drop piped to the house because Baguio City does not have its own water supply, and homes are on a strict water-rationing schedule. Our neighbors enjoy running water only every Tuesday and Saturday.
- Leave the lights and heater on when you are not there. Poor polar bears.

If you want a place where you can have quality family time--laugh over stories with a scenic view, play boardgames with kids, play basketball or even hide and seek, while not worrying about where to park your vehicle in Baguio and enjoying your privacy because you have the house and lot to yourself, this is definitely the place for you. Owner and caretaker are very accommodating and welcoming too. Our family will be definitely be back. I also imagine myself finishing a novella in the future here. Very inspiring place!

Ours was a huge party of 20++ people between the ages of 2- 75 and we all fell in love with Cinema Leonardo. Great value for money. All our needs were answered. A reminder. A caretaker is not a butler. They are there to take care of the property, not be there at our beck and call. With that being said, both Arnel and Ling went above and beyond their duties and took care of all our needs ( as long as they were reasonable.) Location isn't "prime" which makes driving into the property more of a surprise. It has beautiful views on both ends of the property. The beds were very comfortable but since we were a huge party some of us were on mattresses on the floor. Not a problem. We were informed by our host AJ well in advance. We were in constant touch the moment I made the booking. A good outlook is what a realistic traveler on a budget needs, to see what a blessing this place is. Manage your expectations. Otherwise, go blow your budget on a country club membership or The Manor.

The place was really nice and big! We were 3 families and the space was very comfortable. The water pressure iwas the only problem but not under the control of the host. The staff were really helpful as well.

Cinema Leonardo is the perfect location to unwind from the busy city. Its home-y ambiance is perfect for a weekend getaway with friends and family making you feel like it is indeed your own home away from home. The host is very accommodating and flexible to our requests. The caretakers are prompt in attending our needs as well. This trip was our third visit and we are definitely going back again and again.

A great place to stay for big families! Quite and away from the busy place of Baguio City. The best part is you have your own yard! Nothing beats the price as well. Aj and her caretaker, Ling, were awesome hosts. Thank you and we will definitely go back.
