Do you think Gran Canaria is made of beaches, hotels and discos? You are totally wrong. If you like trekking, this is the place to be. Gran Canaria is a continent for itself, where you can walk from the desert to the subtropical vegetation passing volcanic (very big) rocks. And if you are not afraid walking your more than 1000 meters height difference per day, come with your backpack and start discovering this wonderful island.
Now, of course, you need a place to stay, so don't go to the south where most tourists leave, drinking beer and eating sausage. Come and stay in Liduina's flat. It is just a few meters from the wild seashore (where you can swim if you are under good condition) and it is totally isolated. Here you enjoy quietness in a fully well-equipped flat, nothing is missing. And from here going for trekking to Tamabada massif or Mirador de Galdar is just so easy.
But don't worry, Sardina village isn't so far away and you can get mostly everything you need in the local super markets. And if you run for bigger shopping, on the main road from Galdar to Agaete (a place you can join through a charming country road), you have a great shopping centre with big super markets. Furthermore in Galdar, in the nice old town centre, you have plenty of nice and really cheap restaurants, where you can easily find English speaking people.
Finally if you need something, Liduina, sorry Liz for the friends, is just here to help you. She is so kind and helpful and we want to thank her a lot for her kindness. So really, what a marvellous place!
The only thing we can regret is that here, we have an example of the Spanish real estate bubble. You will find some meters away pretty new "urbanizacion" that aren't fully achieved and where rust has started to damage the never used real estate complex. Some unfinished constructions are a little bit older and are rather a mess for the overall landscape, but globally, the place is wonderfull.
