A fully renovated and equipped 18th century holiday home in the pittoresque village of Rodes in the foothills of the Pyrenees with a staggering view of the Mount Canigou and the surrounding mountains.
Our holiday home "Case de l'Avi" (Catalan for grandfather's house) is a spacious, renovated, 18th century house in a truly superb setting in the Pyrenean foothills. It has stunning views from every window looking out over the lush valley with its peach orchards and as impressive backdrop the Mount Canigou, the sacred mountain of the Catalans.
The property is tastefully furnished and has all modern conveniences like internet, dishwasher ...
The entrance to the house leads to a flowery fenced patio with garden furniture and a barbecue for those balmy evenings. On this ground floor you'll also find a shower room and washing-machine. On the first floor there is a balcony with garden furniture from which you can enjoy the breath-taking view. One then enters a spacious lounge area with fire place, television, radio, DVD and CD player.
The kitchen on the same floor has a dish-washer, oven, micro wave, fridge/freezer, hoover and all kinds of electrical appliances.
On the second floor there are two large bedrooms with superb views (each room has twin beds of 90 cm by 200 cm = 3 ft x 6 ft 8 inches) and a bathroom.
Rodes is a friendly village in an area which enjoys on average 310 days of sunshine a year with great hikes starting right out of the front door (for example along the river Têt with its canyon and medieval ruin) and is surrounded by other medieval villages well worth a visit like Eus, Villefranche or Castelnou.
Apart from its tennis court, pétanque court and playground for young children, this authentic little village has a restaurant where you can have lunch or dinner under the mulberry trees and admire the distant mountains.
For your baguettes, croissants or any other fresh produce there is a small superette in the village and bigger supermarkets are at 7 kms. You will be half way between the sea with its lovely sandy or rocky beaches and the high mountains (30 minutes by car) and the Spanish border is just under an hour's drive. The region is also famous for its Cathare castles and Romanesque churches which are all nearby. There are wonderful trails for walkers and hikers and ski resorts and golf courses are at less than an hour's drive away.
You'll find lots of documentation in the house and all the walking maps necessary and in case you have any questions we live across the street at the back of your holiday home and you'll always be very welcome.
You will be able to access the whole holiday home, patio and balcony

My husband John and I discovered Rodes 42 years ago while looking for a house to spend our sabbatical. Once we had settled in we couldn't stand the idea of leaving again and after all this time we haven't regretted it for one single minute.
We're both interested in art (John is an artist) and reading (I used to be a french teacher). We're also passionate hikers and love going out with friends and enjoying the local food and wine. Looking forward to meeting you, Trudy
