About this listing
Roomy, private suite only 20 min to the center of Austin or the airport. On a lovely resort-like acre; relax around the pool, stroll through the live oaks, play a little music or grill on the barbecue. South Austin perfection.
You will have a completely private large apartment suite attached to the house. The main room is a spacious 300 sq. ft., featuring stained glass windows, a fancy queen bed and a hideaway, lots of comfortable seating and a table that can expand to seat four by the big bay windows. Full bath with shower and a cheery kitchenette with a washer and dryer. Plenty of closet space off the entry foyer as well. Outside, a sparkling pool and a barbecue are yours to enjoy. Take a walk around an acre of shady live oaks and grass. Feels like you are at a resort, and still only minutes from downtown.
Your private entrance is just a few steps around the side with a well-lit entry and code lock. Come and go anytime as you like with plenty of parking in a roomy driveway - it can accommodate an RV or bus. You are free to roam the entire property. There is an old treehouse - that's the only bit that is off limits.
Interaction with guests
I am generally available on site anytime to help with anything you need, provide tips on places to go or answer questions. You can choose to have zero or lots of interaction as you wish. Very happy to provide recommendations on where to go and what to do, and I'll do whatever is necessary to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one.
The neighborhood is home to many Austin artists and musicians, all on lots of an acre or more. Quiet and extraordinarily safe, with just about anything you may need (groceries, restaurants, pharmacy, shopping) within a 5-7 minute drive. Great for biking or walking. On foot, you may be surprised to discover a large and ornate Buddhist Temple a 15-min walk away; the Rusty Mule food trailer court/live music venue is just a 10 minute walk away; on the way you'll pass a state-of-the-art recording studio (the Beach Boys, Third Eye Blind, Skrillex and numerous local greats have recorded there). Bonus: the stars are fantastic here. You'll often find me peering through a high-powered telescope at the planets.
A car is the most convenient transportation. There is a park & ride with service to everywhere in Austin that is a five-minute drive away, if you prefer to avoid parking challenges downtown. Although Uber and Lyft are not available in Austin, there are numerous comparable ride sharing services (Fare, Ride Austin, and Wingz, to name a few) available for about $20 to downtown and about $25 to the airport. Please let me know if you have transportation challenges. I may, with some notice, be available to help get you around if you are not driving yourself.
Other things to note
A cat lives in the main house, but is strictly indoors and has no access to your suite, which is completely separate and private. Depending on the length of your stay, I may require access to the washer/dryer, but will be sure to arrange a time with you first.
I appreciate your care and respect for the property and trust you will treat it as you would your home. I encourage you to let me know straight away if anything is amiss and if I may be of assistance.
Upon booking, provide the name and contact info for any guests, and let me know your (and their) planned check in and check out times.
If you would, try not to block the garage when parking, thanks - that allows me to come and go without disturbing you.
Well-behaved pets are ok, maximum two. If you must leave them unattended, please do so for no more than 2 hours.
The house is on a septic system so please, no waste down the toilet or sink that will not organically decompose quickly or or that may block the system.
Swimming requires responsible adults to be present - safety goes with fun, always. Please let me know if you'll be in the pool. The usual pool common sense rules apply - no running, glassware, non-swimmers, non-sober people. Extra towels are in the foyer closet.
There's space around here, so it's ok to make a little noise (musicians take note!) but do try to keep it down during sleeping hours.
No smoking indoors; outside is ok.
You can wander the grounds as you like - shoes are recommended. There is a wet-weather creek on the property with a little footbridge over it. The property is mostly pleasantly level, grassy and mown, but it is Texas, and you will find the occasional rock or uneven ground.
If you want to do laundry, kindly let me know first so I can introduce you to the machines and how they work.
Guests are encouraged to turn off the combination AC/heater unit and lights when leaving to be thoughtful and conserve energy. The space has central air for cooling and heating; the window unit is just supplemental to accommodate your temperature preference.
Great care is taken to ensure your stay is comfortable and safe. No illegal substances, objects or activities are permitted on the property, and your use of the property means you acknowledge and agree that you and your party assume all risk and hold the owner harmless and without fault in the event of any accident or other event resulting in harm to any persons or property.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
I'm an entrepreneur, father of three amazing kids, occasional musician, and enjoy traveling. Love being outdoors, a good dinner and friends. I make Edison bulb lamps from found objects, some of which you will find in the South Austin Suite. Conscientious and responsible, I aim to be both a great host and guest.
