About this listing

Set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside in the village of Crich, this cosy 200 year old cottage, with its 2 up 2 down design, is an ideal base for walking, climbing, cycling, exploring and sightseeing, or simply getting away from it all.

The space

The cottage is around 200 years old and is adjacent to the owners’ own cottage.

The cosy cottage, a 2 up 2 down designed for 1 or 2 persons has been modernised to a high standard and is centrally heated throughout. It is in a very quiet location but only 50 yards from the village market place with many local amenities including pubs serving food, a post office, and our own unique artisan bakery, cafe and deli, called 'the loaf'.

It’s quirky in that the living room and kitchen are upstairs whilst the bedroom and shower room are on the ground floor. This is to make the best of the view towards the nearby village of Fritchley.

The living room is furnished with a sofa, a table and chairs, a TV/DVD, a Radio/CD player and has a feature fireplace. There is a selection of games, books, DVDs and tourist literature provided. The kitchen has a gas cooker and fridge with freezer compartment. There is a queen size double bed with storage drawers, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has a self contained shower, sink and loo.

Guest access

Guests can share use of the private garden and patio which has its own brook running through it. Off road parking is available on the private driveway.

Interaction with guests

As we live in the neighbouring cottage, across the drive, and work in the village, we are available throughout your stay to help with any questions about your stay or about the surrounding area.

Other things to note

We provide all linen, utensils, crockery and some essential supplies (you won’t need your salt and pepper!). There is also lockable storage for bikes and any other leisure items (climbing ropes etc.).

Roger is a lovely host and the cottage is small but cosy. There is one double bedroom downstairs with ensuite and a galley style kitchen and living room upstairs. Very close to pub and small supermarket in a busy little village.

Great cottage in a quiet location in the picturesque village of Crich. Roger was the perfect host, beforehand and during the stay. We appreciated how well equipped the cottage is and the attention to detail. There are walking trails right outside the door, sufficient shops to stock up on the essentials and the local pubs are great as well.

This is a very special find! We had a fantastic time staying in this beautiful cottage and we highly recommend it. Great location for walking around the Derbyshire Dales - helped by the detailed maps in the information book left by the hosts. We look forward to visiting Halcyon Cottage again soon!

Roger's cottage was one of the loveliest places I have ever stayed in. It's been done up excellently and is extremely well equipped. The information guide was the most informative guide I have ever seen for an Airbnb stay, including all the details for the local country walks, which were great fun. Roger was very warm and even gave us a lift to the station as a favor which we hugely appreciated. The weekend was topped off with a very tasty lunch in Roger's local deli 'the loaf'. Overall excellent stay and well worth its money, in the lovely village of Crich.

Roger User ProfileRoger is a superhost.

I'm originally from Leek in Staffordshire and moved to Derbyshire from London in 2005, having had a career at the BBC. I now run the loaf bakery, cafe and deli in Crich with my partner Andrew.
I love independent travel so hope that Halcyon Cottage reflects that in making sure others have a great stay in Derbyshire.
