Escape from reality in a waterfront log cabin that is as wonderful as it is surprising. The cabin is in the very quiet fishing village of Atlantic, NC in the Core Banks where you can truly relax and reconnect with nature and each other.

The space

The main house is a labor of love for us. As such, you will find a fun family environment that is open and welcoming. The kitchen, dining room, and living room are an open layout and you will find the kitchen contains any pots and pans you need, firewood by the porch, and a wardrobe full of boardgames in the living room. There is also wifi and the living room tv has a dvd player and apple tv. There is a bedroom downstairs with a queen bed and a futon , 2 queen bedrooms and a twin room upstairs. There are also an extra twin mattress and two very comfy couches if you expect a crowd :) A honeymoon suite above the garage is available in a separate listing.

Guest access

We want this place to be as special to your family as ours, so please enjoy the house, porches, and dock. If you would like to use the canoe, kayak, or crab pots, please enjoy them carefully. The water off the dock is quite shallow (4 feet on average) so please enter carefully from the lower dock and do not jump or dive off the dock. The closest beaches are Cedar Island, which with extremely shallow and calm water is ideal for children. or Atlantic Beach in Morehead. An outdoor shower is next to the garage and helpful with removing initial sand from little feet. There is a marina nearby to launch a boat if you would like to dock your own at the house while you are visiting. There is also a nearby ferry that can take you to Portsmouth Island for a day or further out to Ocracoke or Hatteras Islands.

Interaction with guests

We do not live nearby so at arrival, you will be greeted by the caretaker Mike who will check you in and lives nearby in case of emergency. All our information will be given to you so for any advice or questions, please contact us. Other than any communication with us, you will have complete privacy.

The Salty Log was the perfect retreat for our family gathering. The four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms made everyone feel like they had enough space and privacy. It was great to have access to the kayak too. My husband and son and I paddled across the sound on a very calm day and found some great shells and saw hermit crabs, horse shoe crabs, herons, egrets, pelicans, and cormorants. The beach near the ferry/boat launch at Cedar Island (12 miles from house) was perfect for the kids too. It is very shallow and they can walk out for a long time before it gets too deep. We also took a trip into Beaufort one day. It's a cute little seaside town with touristy shops a maritime museum, and of course ice cream. The large dining area in the house was great for the many meals we shared together and the back porch was perfect for evening gatherings too. A truly great place!

We are so happy we found the Salty Log! The cabin is so cozy and is located on a beautiful piece of land and ocean. The house has everything you need for a good time, and Rebecca generously allows you to use her fishing poles, kayak, and canoe. We could barely believe how peaceful it was -- even on Memorial Day weekend -- with no noise from neighbors or boats. Rebecca is a great hostess, too!

The Salty Log is a great place for families! We loved the air hockey table! The kids and I had a bunch of competitions! The dock was amazing! The view was awesome! Rebecca made us feel right at home! Can't say enough good things! The beds were very comfortable, and loved the double showerheads in the master bath!

I can not say enough good things about this rental. From the gracious hosts to the amazing house to the relaxing, cozy atmosphere, it was all we had hoped it would be and more. We are a family of 6 who were looking for a get away from the craziness of life and a place to spend quality time together. That is exactly what we were able to do at Salty Log. We literally arrived and did not leave until our check out day. We played games and watched movies and cooked and kayaked and fished and canoed and rested. The sunsets and sunrises were stunning and the stars multiplied in the dark sky. Rebecca was the best host (we even were able to meet her and her daughter) and their place felt like home. I LOVE the way it is decorated with personal things from their travels. Inspired by theirs, we even came home and lined our windows with twinkle lights! There are plenty of movies, games, puzzles and art supplies, the kitchen is well stocked and the beds are super comfortable. We will definitely try to come here again!

Rebecca was very easy to talk to and to work with. The house is everything the description and pictures show and more. Our family had a wonderful thanksgiving week in this cozy log cabin with lots of room. The house was extremely well equipped so that all we needed was the turkey and other groceries. We all said that we should come again.

Had such a great time at the Salty Log! So many things to do in such a quiet and remote location; crabbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, whale watching, star gazing... the list can go on! Not once did we turn on any technology. Great place to disconnect and refresh. The cabin is so lovely and homey, the entire family didn't want to leave! Thank you Rebecca for being such a wonderful host and letting our family share your family's vacation home!
