About this listing

Private and charming studio (40 sq m) with bathroom and kitchenette. Direct access to the GARDEN of a 17th century house on the Keizersgracht. Private entrance. Near museums, shopping streets, Vondelpark, terraces, restaurants, yet quiet. Wifi etc.

The space

Your renovated studio-apartment in a typical canal house opens onto a hidden garden in the heart of the center of Amsterdam, where you can have your coffee in the morning sun. City life without the noise! Twin beds, each 80 cm large, with single topmatress, smart-tv, free high-speed WIFI, fancy kitchenette (no fully equipped kitchen) with microwave/oven, refrigerator, Nespresso, fruit press, egg boiler, toaster. Hairdryer, clothes washing machine and -dryer. Huge wardrobe/closet. Own entrance on street level with code lock.

Guest access

Access via street level hall of an ancient canal house. Studio sits in the typical "back house", first door in the main staircase. Access to a small garden, very sunny until 2 pm. Perfect for a quiet breakfast with self-made cappuccino or a nice cocktail in the evening.

Interaction with guests

The host, a writer, is available most of the time. Speaking English, Dutch and French, he is able to tell you all the details you need to know to have a great time in Amsterdam. He has two small dogs that adore attention by those visitors who feel like it. If not, one might only hear them bark every now and then. See pics and you will love them!

Other things to note

Bus 197 takes you from the airport to the centre of the city, a five minutes' walk from my home, a twenty minutes' ride for 4 euros only. I highly recommend!
Get off the bus at the Leidseplein, head in the direction of the 'KLM' sign on a rooftop, take the busy shopping street right next to it and continue straight ahead to the Keizersgracht. Cross the bridge over the Keizersgracht, take to your left, where you see cafe Walem. My place is 50 meters down from there.

Worst Airbnb experience I've ever had. The only good thing was the location, very central to everywhere in the city. Besides that, I have nothing good to say. Zero amenities, not even soap in the soap dispenser. There were bugs and huge spiders crawling everywhere by the second day. It says you can smoke outside but the owner of the building came out and told us we were only allowed to smoke tobacco. The main issue was the code to the door outside. Jasper was not there to check us in and it is VERY difficult to use. When it's raining or just late in the day it doesn't work. We got locked out of the apartment in the freezing rain for half an hour trying to open the damn door. Called Jasper three times and he didn't answer. The wifi was very spotty and the Netflix kept disconnecting. By the second day we wanted to change to a hotel. Save your money.

Things we loved - fantastic, central location, very clean, sunny garden. Things you should know - we found it a bit cold/dark with little natural light (even when it was 27c and sunny) and we had no instructions on how to heat the apartment even when we asked twice. 2 loud parties from neighbours on Fri/Sat night - although they told us this was unusual. Kitchen electrics failed leaving the fridge and cooking facilities out of use. We also had no free wifi for 36 hours. No instructions in apartment. No privacy in the shower/glass wall to kitchen. Would we stay here again - yes in this area (we come to Amsterdam at least once a year) but sorry it would be a no to this apartment.

Great location. It is odd to be able to see the kitchen through the shower wall.

I really like to meet nice people, having good conversations, creating funny stories and adventures, discovering countries and cities, sharing ideas, joy, food and life.

AirBNB is a sharing community and I'm so happy to be part of this increasing community to meet other people and to do where I'm good in: being a sociable hostess.

Feel free, feel at home, be welcome and ENJOY!
