Our wonderful home awaits to welcome you for your Vineyard escape. 1 block from the beach and a few blocks from town and ferries our purple house with its large front porch and patio/outdoor shower in back is where you should be rocking this summer.
Our home is actually 2 smaller houses that were moved from the Campgrounds and combined into one larger house near the water in the late 1800s. It is now in the historic Copeland District and retains all the touches and charm of the original houses including wood floors through out, a front and back staircase, common spaces on the ground floor (including a full bath with a shower and washer/dryer) and bedrooms upstairs (though I did convert the fourth bedroom into a spacious second full bathroom with a lovely soaking tub) and a small second level private porch off the master bedroom with a view towards the ocean. To accommodate any of our guests for whom stairs might be an issue, the couch in the den/office opens into a queen size bed as well.
Our house has both a large front porch as well as a private bricked back patio, offering multiple options for outdoor dining. In addition to an outdoor shower, the backyard is a great place to sip on some wine while grilling or have a more private sit in the sun.
Pennacook is a popular path to the beach which is a short block away. For your convenience if you decide to bring a car, there is a private driveway along the side of the house that can accommodate one car. In front of the house is on street parking as well. However, given our location, a car is not essential. Most people walk down the street to the beach and will often stop to chat on their way. It is a short and easy walk to town as well where you will find a complete grocery store, hardware store and liquor store as well as many local restaurants, ice cream parlors and shops. A few blocks in the other direction along the ocean will take you to the ferries and buses as well as the famous Flying Horses Carousel, a treat for "children" of all ages!
Interaction with guests
I have a wonderful caretaker on the island who is available throughout your stay to address any problems, if any, you may encounter.
Other things to note
While I have used the house over the years for my family, which has included my mother in a wheelchair, there are a few steps to access the porch and the guest would be limited to the first floor.
The house is perfect for a family with children ages 5 years and older. It is not "child-proofed" or ideal for very young, crawling children and toddlers.
To address the comment from Phill regarding ants, as with other houses from this period, the cottage is built on concrete studs over a foundation of dirt. When it is very hot, sugar ants may come up from the dirt below in search of food or water. While I have never had a problem in the 17 years I have lived in the house, I know that if food is left out or food crumbs collect on the floor, it is the natural inclination of ants to seek that out.
