The house is very close to town yet has spectacular views of the Coyote Hole, an ever shifting play of light and shadow on ancient rocks. The center of town is blocks away and the park entrance is within 5 miles.

The space

This is a contemporary 3 bedroom 2 bath house with rock views and is just steps away from local hiking trails. The house is comfortable with 3 bedrooms and two full baths (one with large shower, the other with a tub), ac, outdoor patio with bbq and furniture, and an eclectic blend of vintage furniture. The kitchen is spacious, very well laid out and equipped for cooking delicious meals that you can enjoy either in the dining area or al fresco on the patio.

The Coyote Hole is the local rock formation and wash from the National Park into town, It was home to natives way back in the day and there's a great hiking trail through the rocks with the possibility of chance encounters with the local wildlife, petroglyphs and a few of the locals who frequent this wonderful informal park in town. Joshua Tree National Monument is less than 5 miles away and the village is walking distance from the house. If you're into modern architecture, this street has more than it's share of architect designed, prefab, showcase and vintage homes.

Just down the hill, is the JT village with it's eclectic blend of shops and restaurants. The Saloon has a great selection of beer and other drinks, occasional live music and/or karaoke, tasty bar food and that old time western vibe. The Three Sisters and Cross Roads Cafe offer mostly healthy and definitely tasty home cooking with a gourmet twist. There's also Sam's that does pretty good Indian food with pizza in traditional and spicy Indian fusion fashion (curry pizza sauce). If you're looking for NY style pizza there's Pie for the People with huge slices of pie with some very unique toppings (strawberries on pizza?).

This Vista House offers a great neighborhood, views, the Village lifestyle, proximity to the National Monument, hiking just across the street and a comfortably furnished house to spend your vacation.

Matin's place is easily accessible and close to town yet away from the highway noise.

We couldn't be happier with the location of Martin's place. It was minutes to Joshua Tree downtown and the visitor center, and 10 min to the Joshua Tree National Park entrance. Martin was quick to respond on some of our issues and sent his crew to resolve it quickly. The house is roomy and has the basics you need for a nature getaway.

Martin's place was great. Our team felt incredibly comfortable and taken care of, it was close to everything but still quiet. We would definitely come again!

The Coyote Vista listing seemed just right for us! Just enough space with a kitchen and two bathrooms, close to JTNP and Coyote Hole. We were excited about the patio (a place to enjoy the stars!). Unfortunately, the photos and description did not match the reality. When we first got there the electricity was turned off! Thank god Martin (the owner) was easy to reach and resolved the issue within an hour. Martin seems very nice and helpful. He just needs to spruce up the place and make it safe and clean. I have a huge list (with photos) or broken cabinets and furniture as well as concerns about exposed wires in the walls, no screens or locks on some of the windows, and poorly functioning shower fixtures. The place seemed run down and like no one had been there in quite a while. Even though the listing says there's a/c it was actually a swamp cooler. We had to call Martin to figure out how to get it to work. It did finally kick on but was noisy (knocking, hissing, and ticking) all night and day, even when we turned it off! There is a kitchen and it functioned well except there wasn't any basic amenities such as paper towels, trash bags, plastic wrap, lids for pots and pans, the list goes on. There was also old food in the fridge (expired mayo and other condiments) and it wasn't very clean. There were, however, fresh towels in every room and clean sheets and blankets on the beds. Both beds were pretty uncomfortable though. The location was decent. Close to JTNP, Coyote Hole, and the town center. The patio was pretty much unusable. The chimnea was broken, there was trash in the yard and all the chairs were dirty and rickety. The house has lots of potential though and with a little loving care from its owner it could be a great spot. I would not recommend this place unless it was cleaned and fixed up.

Loved this location because it was walking distance to town but we still felt isolated. We were able to walk to a great local trail and the drive to Joshua Tree was quick and easy.

All in all, I feel like this property is a prime example of 'you get what you pay for'. When booking, we were unfamiliar with the area and saw that this property was $50-75 less per night than similar properties in the neighborhood. In hindsight, we would have gladly paid the extra money for another property with less issues and in better condition. The good: great location, about 5 miles from JTNP entrance and about 1 mile from awesome little shops and cafes. Martin was very friendly and quick to respond to a few issues with the property. Functional layout - open and makes the space feel bigger and brings everyone together. The issues: heaters - when we came it was in December. the heat is only provided by space heaters. we initially walked in the home and the thermostat read 57 degrees. we had to drag the space heaters from the bedrooms to the main room/kitchen to warm it and then move them again back to the bedrooms to sleep. Martin provided another space heater but unfortunately, it still didn't really do the trick and we still had to drag heaters from the bedrooms to the main room which left the bedrooms and bathrooms very cold. (it also tripped the electrical breaker a handful of times which we had to reset) - all in all, it wasn't a fun thing to have to deal with throughout our trip. wifi was slow - Martin kindly boosted the speed when we mentioned this to him but it was still slow through our visit wear and tear - the house was in generally poor condition, shower heads, carpeting, not a lot of hot water, kitchen items. communication - unless it was initiated by us there was no communication on how to check in, specifics about the property, how and when to check out etc. I understand you may be thinking that I'm nitpicking. I wouldn't argue with you that I'm surely biased. But I'm trying to be as objective and reasonable as possible. It was tough when you were expecting one thing for your stay and received something else. Joshua Tree is beautiful though! Make sure you check it out.
