The space

Martina is an ancient stone farmhouse that for centuries dominates Portovenere from Mount Muzzerone, a crossroads of the hiking trail towards the Cinque Terre and for many years the goal of rockers coming from all over the world to reach the well-equipped walls of the beautiful cliffs that peak on sea. The house is 200 meters above sea level, a few steps from Muzzerone Rifugio; To reach it, leave the car at a precise point, a sort of square, and follow a path (path 1 of the CAI) through the Portovenere Park for about 400 meters, almost all in the plane except for a sloping slope . It is not a very demanding path and is very popular even in the evening, because local people go to dinner at the hut, which is 50 meters. It is a trail in the woods, in the Park, and is not illuminated; at night the torches are needed :-) It would be better to use a backpack or shoulder bag, no trolley! The machine can be left at the beginning of the trail, even for days. Here peace reigns supreme, it feels only the perfume of the wind, the sea and the Mediterranean scrub and the view spans the Gulf of Poets, the Apuanes, the Versilia and to the west to Gorgona and Corsica. From the house you can go down to the village and the sea in about 15-20 minutes walking (of course the climb is a bit harder, it depends on the state of form, I use 20 minutes!), Choosing one of two fantastic trails . Once in the country you can spend a day at Portovenere, where you can find well-equipped beaches, or Palmaria Island (also equipped with beach) or take a ferry and visit the Cinque Terre or Lerici. . The house inside is very comfortable, fresh in summer and perfectly air-conditioned in winter thanks to advanced renovation techniques and thick stone masonry. It is composed of: on the ground floor a very large living area with TV, fireplace and kitchen, a double bedroom and a bathroom with double bathtub. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, each with a TV and en suite bathroom, one with Jacuzzi. No breakfast is served at Rifugio Muzzerone where you can also have lunch and dinner: Excellent food (frequented by locals), incomparable view, smart atmosphere and reasonable prices. You can not afford the use of the kitchen for regulatory reasons but there is a modern nespresso machine with coffee / cappuccino / tea preparation kettle and a fridge to store food and drink that you can buy on your own and to be served in your room or in the garden . In case of arrival with the car, you must use the detailed map of airbnb photos. Coming from Portovenere, you will have to go along the path 519 leading directly to the hut and to the house.

La Martina is a beautiful location offering one of the most spectacular views imaginabile. The Golfo dei Poeti, the Appenines and the island of Palmaria provide an amazing panorama! The steep hike up from Portovenere takes about 25 minutes (obviously depending on your fitness), however the view surely makes up for the effort, especially when the fireflies come out in droves at night! A special thanks goes out to the gentlemen of the nearby Rifugio Muzzerone (50 m away) who fed us with delicious, local and affordable meals almost every evening. One thing worth mentioning is that the space available to guests consists of one pretty room with a bathroom. We were under the impression that we could also use a shared kitchenette / living room. That was not the case. We merely had a fridge and coffee machine in the hallway at our disposal

Antonio's house La Martina is very special and sits high on the hill above the beautiful old town of Portovernere. The bedrooms and bathrooms are charming. As it says in the description don't take too much luggage as the track is rough but do-able and the very fine view is the reward for the trek. We never meet Antonio but spoke to him on the phone and he was very helpful.

We found a little bit of heaven in this place. It's high on a mountain with the best views of the Med Sea and Portovenere you'll ever have. It felt like a secret hide away that was only ours to savour. We felt at home with the modern, beautifully renovated house with comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, stunning bathrooms and cosy fireplace. It was everything and more that was advertised. You have to do a little walk through the forest to get to the place - so take a backpack with only what you need and comfortable shoes. The host was amazing - meeting us and taking us to the place, ensuring everything was perfect and he was so friendly and accommodating. I'm going to buy this house when I retire one day! Thanks so much for sharing your bliss with us. It was so special
