Interaction with guests
In the Valea Verde Resort you will find 24hours assistence, our Restaurant is open from 8.00 am until at least 23h. During the night there is a night watch man. The owners, Ulrike and Jonas Schäfer live in the village as well and are available for any kind of questions.
Located in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, the picturesque village of Cund soaked up German, Romanian and Hungarian traditions over the centuries. The result is an extraordinary fusion of these different cultures.
The air is soft and clear, the ancient woods and winding paths are directly on our doorstep, meaning you can walk for hours without bumping into another soul. In spring you will have wild daffodils and orchids for company, in summer kestrels will be orbiting the piercing blue skies, in the fall you can go on truffle expeditions and in winter the snow-capped hills and mountains are perfect for winter walks.
Culture and history are intricately bound up with each other in Cund. And within a 100 km radius from the village you will find famous churches, spectacular Medieval buildings and Transylvanian highlights such as Sibiu, Sighisoara, Medias, Brasov, Bistriza, Agnita, Regin and Tirgu Mures.
Generally there are three ways of travelling to Transylvania – either by rail, by plane or by car! In this section we want to give you a bit of advice on how to make the most of these mean and our advice. Should you require any further assistance or information, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Traveling by car
Traveling by car is not as bad as one might think! The Romanian roads have improved quite a bit and one is finding more and more road signs these days, though things can still be much improved upon… Always remember when planning your trip, that its virtually impossible to average more than 50km per hour whilst driving as very few stretches of motorways are finnished by now and even major roads pass through villages!
Traveling by rail to Sighisoara from Western Europe
Traveling by rail to Transylvania was what Jonathan Hawker did in Bram Stoker´s novel „Dracula“ and is a great experience! From Western Europe you have trains departing from Vienna that go via Budapest to Sighisoara, our nearest train station. The trip from Vienna to Sighisoara takes 13 to 14 hours. Alternatively you can take a train to Budapest and change there for Bucharest, these trains also stop in Sighisoara! We generally experienced the staff on the trains to be very nice and welcoming and the carriages to be absolutely fine, but the toilets onboard the train should, as everywhere in the world, not be a subject of too close scrutiny….From Sighisoara we offer a pick up service or you can rent a car there.
Traveling by rail to Sighisoara from Bucharest
We always recomment to take the train from Bucharest to Sighisoara if one wants to come to Cund! The train ride takes you through the beautiful Prahova valley and the hilly wilderness of Transylvania and onboard the train you will really find time to enjoy this experience. In contrast to that, most of the year the roads in these areas are quite busy with trucks and cars and the Romanian driving style does need a bit of getting used to…. We also experienced the staff on the Romanian trains to be nice and welcoming and the carriages to be fine, but again the toilets onboard the train should, as everywhere in the world, not be a subject of too close scrutiny…. From Sighisoara we offer a pick up service or you can rent a car there.
Traveling by plane
We are quite fortunate to have a small international airport close to Cund (25 min. by car) close by in Tirgu Mures and from here you have (at the moment) three airlines serving much of Europe. An interesting Hungarian airline is the low cost carrier WIZZ Air. They offer direct flights to Tirgu Mures many European cities like London, Rome, Milano, Barcelona, Madrid and Dortmund. Their fares vary a bit but are generally inexpensive, the planes are new and service is quite ok for a low cost airline. We recommend the „extra leg-room“ option for anybody over 1.70m of height, a really well invested Euro 10,-.
From Tirgu Mures we offer a pick up service or you can rent a car there from Avis, Eurocar, Herz or some good local agencies.
Other options for travelling by air are Sibiu Airport (90km from Cund) and Cluj Napoca (100km from Cund). Both airports are much larger than Tirgu Mures and offer better connections due to their size. We also offer a transfer service to these airports, but one has to facture in a bit more time to get there...
Other things to note
In a romantic valley not far from the medieval town of Sighişoara lies the Valea Verde Resort. Here we have established a very special place for our guests in the small village of Cund. Our love of nature, our close affinity with the country, our special sense for creating a soothing and relaxed atmosphere and our passion for good food formed the essential principles that guided us in our endeavor.
When walking under the canopy of ancient trees, horse riding in the hills, watching the sunset by the natural pool or enjoying a romantic candlelight dinner in our restaurant – you will find your spirit for the eternal values that count in life rekindled.
By tranquility and nature.
Stimulation and relaxation.
Family and friends.
Being active and moving about.
And the ability to celebrate with all your senses.
As the village is very remote, we (fortunately very rarely) have power failures for a few hours. Please also note, that the village is not fully covered by mobile signal, in the grounds of the Valea Verde you have Vodafone and Orange mobile signal.
